I actually have a copy of brux's 2016 election ballot: Voted Trump/Pence. RFK and JFK would not have hastened the withdrawal of American soldiers in Vietnam. RFK was a politician first - none of the Kennedys were the crusaders of integrity that both the Left and Right remember them as. Kazan ruined the careers and lives of artists who were much more talented than he was. MLK's adultery was a personal flaw that had no impact on his activism in civil rights and poverty movements. You're an idiot to compare Kazan to either of them. If it just showed itself as it really is - an action movie with a guy who has metal in his hands, it'd be the next John Wick, or could even elevate itself to Mad Max Fury Road terrain if approached right. Instead all the writers and the director circle jerked each other thinking they were making a socially relevant, genre-bending, deep character movie - when it's thinly derivative of Children of Men and The Road. The plot/exposition is handled terribly - we are literally told of the backstory through a cell phone recording. Still it had an effect on the average movie idiot... it was better than the DC superhero movies, at least it's got that going. Did y'all read the book? Or can one proceed the series without having read it? Funny that the other active post here is on Elia Kazan - Martin Ritt is the anti-Elia Kazan. Where Kazan gave into HUAC and made subsequent movies championing individuality against a corrosive society, Ritt was blacklisted and made nuanced, insidious movies on the culpability of one's resistance against an oppressive system. Watching THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD, MOLLY MAGUIRES, HUD - these are truly subversive movies where the lauded Kazan's movies now come across as hokey and simplistic (as good as they are). Trump built a wall to block them from coming. Blomkamp made ONE good movie - District 9. His other two movies on class/race commentary were juvenile. Why would anyone expect Blomkamp to be able to direct a horror movie or an immersive environment film?
