Same. I stopped watching in November last year. Didn’t see the last 3 or so episodes of the show and pretty much either read episode summaries or figured out what happened from what people said on this board. For me, I kept watching almost out of obligation. I loved the first season, but ever since then it’s been going downhill ever since. I kept watching in the hopes that things would get better, but instead we were met with more idiotic storylines, horrible arcs and just really boring episodes.
The farm was so bad and boring. Them wasting bullets and doing target practice on anything else but zombies was dumb. Sometimes I wondered how stupid they could get, they just lacked any intelligence. I used to be one of those Daryl lovers, I felt like he was the heart of the show and would stop watching if he died. But now? I can’t even stand him anymore. The only good character left is Carol. They even turned Michonne weak. I just find that I no longer really care about or even like any of the characters anymore.
I think killing off Carl was a big mistake because he was the future of the show - an easy out if they ever decided to kill off Rick. He would be the natural new leader, since we’ve followed his family from the very start of the show. Rick and his family are the heart of the show. But now with rumours that Andrew Lincoln wants out of the show, Carl seemed like the natural next leader after a small time jump. Maggie also appears like she’s leaving the show. It seems like everyone wants off the show now, and I don’t blame them.
I absolutely hate this Negan story arc, and knowing that he isn’t going anywhere seals the deal for me. I want him and his cronies gone, but that isn’t going to happen. The show basically is wash and repeat. The group finds a place they think is safe, they meet a new baddie, the place gets destroyed and they move onto the next location. The zombies have become no big deal now. Now it’s all just about taking out new baddies.
7:15 IMAX showing. Theatre about 75% full. Audience really enjoyed it, laughed at the funny bits, more than half stayed through the end of credits for the end credit scene. Some even started clapping at the end. Trailers shown: Venom, Han Solo, Tomb Raider, and Ant Man and The Wasp. I think that was it.
Ha ha, yeah that was another issue too. What couldn’t Patience just pick up the phone and call Jody? Why did she just pack everything up and leave everything behind? The only explanation I can even think of, is that she saw the scenario play out different ways, and picked this one as the right one. Like maybe if she just called, Jody still would have gotten killed. Who knows. And her dad telling her to never come back, after almost losing her a few episodes ago and also losing his mom, it just made no sense. Why give her an ultimatum? He could have said anything, but what he actually said.
And spending so much time on Kai was also annoying, since it didn’t involve Dean of Sam much. They really did get little screen time. And yeah, the fact that Dean and Sam end up in monster land, while Kai seemingly gets send to a nice alternate...or just up the road. It was ridiculous. And why 3 different places too? You would think she and Jack would have ended up in the same place.
And the Dean we know, definitely would have tried as best as he could to convince her to go with them. He would have even cried and told her how desperate he was to get her back. But to just pull a gun on her, and have Sam not even try to really talk him out of it...it was just out of character. Not just for Dean, but Sam too. The angels to me were beyond irritating though, especially with that stupid slapping the ground move they did. That is something I’d expect to see on a cheesy, crappy show. I feel like I’ve even seen something like that before too. But it was just so bad. It was ridiculous. I also don’t get why Jack couldn’t just take them all out. He took out other people before. And hell Lucifer could just snap his fingers and dust any angels or demons near him. You’d think Jack would be just as able to do something like that.
When the show comes back, I’m not looking forward to the dinosaurs or King Kong or whatever happens. It looks so bad. What the hell happened to this show? 😞
Not sure how you didn’t notice the camera style, it was so distracting to me. The second the episode started it felt and looked different than all the other episodes. It felt like someone was using a handycam or something. It was shaking all over the place, and all the weird angles and zoom-ins...it just looked bad. You are right that it felt like you were watching another show, it didn’t feel like Supernatural at all. The back and forth between the two storylines also wasn’t well done. I found all the Patience and Jody scenes were just so boring and so slow paced.
The drifter was different, her screaming was annoying. Dean kidnapping her was so out of character for him, especially him trying to show Jack they’re the good guys. I get that it’s his mom, but him kidnapping an innocent wasn’t like him. And Sam barely even tried to stop him. Jack being a bit creepy when he said hello to people was also odd. Really, aside from that one Dean and Jack moment where he said they were his family, there was nothing else I liked about the episode. I’ve never watched a supernatural episode before where I kept asking myself “WTF is going on? WTF am I watching? WTF is wrong with the camera? WTF is wrong with the colouring? WTF is up with these angels?? WTF is Dean doing?” It was just a huge WTF episode for me. It was just bad.
I hate how they also go back and forth with either Dean and Sam being too weak or too strong. They’ve taken on just as many, if not more Angels before, and this time they’re all of a sudden stuck and don’t know what to do? How about they take them down like they’ve taken down so many other angels and demons before? And if the angels have the ability to break spells like they were trying to do, how come they’ve never once done that trick before? It was so badly done too. This is really the first episode I’ve seen in all 13 seasons, that I absolutely didn’t like. And the more I talk about it, the more I hate it. I really did hate the episode.
A lot of people are pissed off about Carl being bit, because many fans of the show see the Walking Dead as his story...not Rick’s, but Carl. I was reading some reviews from Forbes, and man they went off on how bad a decision it was to kill Carl off. Just shredding the show to bits, so much so that they think they need to just fire everyone behind the scenes of the show. Get a whole new team of people in because they don’t trust AMC, the showrunner or the producers anymore. They pretty much killed off Carl for nothing more than shock value. They did have a perfect setup with him taking over. Like Andrew Lincoln said, it would have been natural to have him grow to be the leader. Maybe not now, but in a few years when he’s an adult and can take charge more. But now? That’s all gone to hell. And if Rick dies too, the show is done.
If Andrew Lincoln does leave, I think I will be officially done. Although I’m already pretty much done now. Darryl is nothing like he used to be. He was a fan favourite before, and for the last 2 or 3 seasons, I couldn’t care less if he dies. I used to be one of those “if Darryl dies, We riot” fans, but haven’t felt like that in a long time. And as badass as Carol has gotten, I don’t think I’d watch for her.
Michonne became like all these other characters who people said they couldn’t wait to see on the screen, and then when they finally get on the show everyone is like, WTF?? She was good at first, but ever since her and Rick hooked up she became so...weak? When that trash girl beat her up in the tower last season, what the hell was that? Michonne should have kicked her ass, but instead she nearly died. I get she has a lot to lose now, and she didn’t before, but she went from a strong character to a weak one. She regressed.
Ha, well Gimple is definitely a reason to stay away. And with Morgan now also appearing on the next season, forget it. I can’t stand Morgan. And I don’t know if it was the acting or just the characterization that I hated so much with the mother and daughter. I couldn’t stand either one of them, and I can’t really see it turning around. Once I hate a character, it’s pretty damn impossible to turn them around to one of my faves. Hell, I liked the boyfriend more than I liked the mother and daughter. That says how unlikable they were.
I still can’t get over how stupid that daughter was on that boat, what a complete idiot. And nothing the mother has done has turned her character around for me. With every episode, I kept hoping those two would get bit. That is never a good thing when you’re cheering on the zombie or bad guys whenever they got attacked.
I never thought he was great, but I didn’t think he was horrible either. I’ve seen way worse actors than him. He was decent. Maybe with some acting classes and theatre he can become a real standout. I think he’ll do alright off the shoe now. He got out when it was really starting to go downhill. As bad as the show is doing in the ratings, it still gets a lot of press. Many of the other actors who left have gone on to have some decent careers. Others seemed to disappear. But with him being so young, who knows. I wish the kid well.
I think it’s more than just bad writers. Bad show runner, bad producers and definitely bad writing. A bunch of people need to be fired and replaced.
The writing has been pretty bad since Frank Darabont left. Sure there have been some decent episodes, but season 2 and 3 sucked. The farm was horrible, the prison sucked less but was still pretty bad. All the solo character episodes that took you out of the story because it took you weeks to find out what happened to the characters - also really bad. All the bad and dumb decisions have been infuriating. The only great season they had, was the first one. Everything else has been hit and miss.
Like others, I’ve only continued watching the show out of habit. Hoping it would get better. For every episode that finally hit the mark, they would take 2 steps back with the next episodes. And now with Negan, I just find myself not caring. Especially with how bad Darryl and many others are written. Carol leaving yet again, was just like when she left a few seasons ago...only to come come back like she did this time. Darryl making bad decision after bad decision...what happened to the Darryl from a few seasons ago? He’s just an idiot now. I don’t really care about the others much either. Morgan has pissed me off so many times, and now I hear he’ll be on Fear? LOL. There aren’t many reasons to keep watching with how bad the show has gotten.
He could have been spouting off. But considering at that time he already knew Carl was a goner, why even make that suggestion that the show could continue with him after Rick leaves? I know many interviews are done weeks and sometimes months in advance, but this interview came out more than 3 months after Chandler was given the boot, at the end of September. No way was the interview that old.
Either way, it is odd that everyone let the cat out of the bag that Carl dies next episode. Just seems...weird. What reason is there to tune in next season, if you already know his fate? Plus the mid-season finale was the worst in the history of the show. If having Carl bit resulted in the lowest ratings yet, how much worse will it be when the show comes back? Everyone knows it’ll be his death episode, since they told everyone anyway. Unless they’ve got a shocking turn of events when the show returns, and this was all some weird ass planned hoax. Maybe some weird way to introduce the next baddies, since we all know that Negan’s arc ends this season? Who knows.
But I wouldn’t be surprised if Andrew Lincoln leaves too. The show has been rinse and repeat for a while now. Same plot and story over and over again. But at the same time, can the show even survive without him? I guess if Game of Thrones can survive without Ned Stark there’s a chance, but 8 seasons in? With both Rick and Carl gone, who would be left? Sure there is Darryl and Carol, but do people really want to tune in just for them? Will they do a massive time jump into the future to where Judith is now a teenager? That would require a completely new cast. Either that or a hell of lot of elderly makeup for everyone else if they age them 15 or so years. Maybe it’ll be a show of Judith and Maggie and Glenn’s kid? Who knows. That’ll likely be the death of the show.
In a way, I think the kid who plays Carl will be lucky to get out now, before the distaste for TWD grows higher, and they lose even more viewers. I mean at this point they’re only slightly beating season 2’s numbers. Soon they’ll be hitting season 1 numbers, and can they survive if the show pulls in even fewer numbers than season 1? It’s doubtful. So in the long run, even though the kid says he’s sad to be getting killed off in the next episode back...it may be the best thing for him to get off of this sinking ship now, than closer to the end. He has a head start over some of the other younger actors on the show.
Maybe now he’ll surprise a lot of people. I’ve never had an issue with Carl or the actor, but I know a lot of people hated him and thought he sucked. Who knows, maybe he’ll show people he’s actually really talented. I just feel sorry for the kid now, because he said Gimple basically lied to his face and told him how he wanted him on the show for like 3 more years, and told him all this other stuff about his future on the show...and then decides to kill him off for a shock moment. He also said, because of what Gimple told him, he decided to put some roots down in Georgia and buy a house, and not that’s all kind of gone to hell. But then, being a home owner now, hopefully he can get a bit of a profit from the sale and not be out any money. I hope he’s saved most of what he made from the show.
I get that feeling. I used to watch TWD every Sunday out of habit. I figured I’ve watched since the beginning, may as well keep watching it. But for the last few episodes this season, I just....don’t care anymore. The characters aren’t enjoyable anymore...the show itself isn’t enjoyable. And the viewership shows. They said that the whole Negan arc will last throughout this season. I don’t think I’ll be around for the end of it all especially if Negan survives (which seems likely, given he’s still alive in the comics, after they reach a truce)
They said before that they can see this show lasting easily for 10 seasons or more, but if they keep losing viewers like they are, I can’t see it lasting too much longer. They used to be a ratings powerhouse, but now all I keep hearing is how poorly it’s doing compared to other seasons. It’s still probably the highest rated show on AMC, so they’ll keep it as long as they can, but if it keeps declining to huge numbers like it has been, the end might be nearer than they think. It’s doing numbers similar to season 2 now, which is still good compared to other AMC shows, but horrible overall. This show, at one time got 14 millions viewers quite regularly (or near there). Now it’s only bringing in around 8 million, or less. And the mid-season finale brought in the lowest numbers yet for a mid-season finale.
Who knows how much longer they’ll continue to do the show, with such huge declines, it may just become too expensive to keep producing if the viewers aren’t there. Sure it might still have higher ratings than some of their other shows (they have shows that only bring in about 1 million viewers), but those shows are likely a hell of a lot cheaper to produce than TWD. And fans won’t accept a show like this that goes cheap, and drastically cuts costs. Not only would that mean a much smaller cast, but they might even kill off the ones who take in the most money like Rick and Darryl. They might as well end it then.
A good villain is someone you love to hate. Even when they’re evil, they’re so good, and they may even have redeeming qualities. A bad one is someone you just hate, and want gone. Negan is a bad villain, someone I can’t wait to die so we can be done with him. His whole cocky attitude, and the way he kills people...just...ugh. And oh man, the way they killed off Glenn and Abe were just so over the top. Especially with Glenn trying to talk. It was probably one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen. It was way too over the top and traumatic.
I have to say I’m glad the viewers and ratings are tanking. This last mid-season finale was the lowest rated ever for the series. They’ve losing viewers and have been for a while. Their characterizations have been horrible for a while now. Darryl has really gone downhill, Michonne used to be a badass but hasn’t been for a while, Carol is really the only one who has improved. Carl is soon to be gone...I feel sorry for the kid, but I’m surprised he outlasted that baby. Overall, there just aren’t too many characters left to root for, and Negan sucks, and that whole storyline sucks.
As for Fear, well I watched up until around the mid-season of the 2nd season, so I don’t know how good the show has gotten since then. Could they really improve that much in a season and a half? Plus since it’s been so long since I last watched, I’d need to catch up. But considering the only characters I even liked were Strand and Nick, I really have no interest in seeing the others again. Out of everyone, I really wanted the mom and sister to bite the big one. Ha! The reason I started watching the show to start with was to see the start of the ZA, which never happened. We were lied to and I lost interest. As someone else said, it’s just TWD 2.0 now. They’ve already caught up with that show, which loses my interest. I wanted to see what led up to the ZA, the start of it all going so wrong - not another TWD.
I’ve always had some issues with the show, going all the way back to the 2nd season. There were a lot of dumb scenes, and things characters did that didn’t make sense. It’s been going on for a long time. I still can’t get over how much everyone wastes bullets. And not only that, but they insist on doing ltarget practice” or anything but zombies. Just dumb. If you want to learn how to be a got shot and kill them at first go, what better way than to get a small group of walkers together and try to get head shots?
But for me it really started going downhill when Darryl started becoming Rick’s second in command, and when they decided to do that march of walkers from the quarry...instead of just blowing them all up, gunning them all down or setting them on fire...or doing really anything else except what they did in the end that went so tits up. I still kept watching, but I was getting increasingly annoyed. All the standalone episodes too really got annoying. All the character-specific episodes, that then left you uncertain for weeks about what was going on. Morgan’s constant back and forth, also super annoying. He’s either “I don’t want to kill anyone, even zombies” or blood-lust crazy man who gets into a zone and goes psycho. No middle area, like the others. Carol leaving then coming back into it all, also a bit annoying.
But really, I just can’t stand Negan. His whole arc is dumb and makes no sense. How people don’t just overthrow him is a mystery, especially when he’s so hated by his own group. At least the Governor convinced people that he was on the good side, and Rick’s group were monsters, andhis group lived fairly well...until they ended him. Negan’s own workers hate his guts, they’re treated like slaves and treated badly, and even his small group of captains kind of want to overthrow him...either that or they act like a group of chickens witht heir heads cut off. It just makes no sense why he holds so much power over them. And he’s not a good villain.
Does watching both shows diminish either of them to you? That’s what I found to be one of my issues. It was just...too much zombies. I felt like Fear took away from TWD. It was just an oversaturation of the market. I don’t even know what happened on Fear except for those 2 death. Are they still in Mexico? Have any of the characters improved? I really couldn’t stand the mom. Strand was really the one one who had smarts about the wold apocalypse, followed closely by Nick. But everyone else was just....expendable to me.
As for TWD, so they burned down Alexandria? I heard that the Kingdom and Hilltop were destroyed. So all 3 places are gone? I pretty much just read the spoilers instead of watching the episode. All they really talked about was how they escaped Alexandria through the sewers, and that Carl was bit. What else happened? I don’t care about spoilers, obviously. I probably won’t even watch the episode. The last full episode I think I watched, was when the gang went to the Saviour compound and got all those zombies to swarm the place. I saw parts of the other episodes...like when Carol saved Ezekiel and his bodyguard. I didn’t see the part where Rick was talking to that guy from the first season who was now a Saviour. I saw Darryl getting pissed off at Rick for not taking action. Rick following that helicopter and talking to those trash people. And part of Darryl pulling that stunt at the Saviours place, that I guess allowed them to escape. And Eugene annoying the hell out of me. But yeah, I’ve missed a few episodes, at least. LOL.
I think the last time I saw Fear, they were in that Mexican house? I don’t think I even fully watched the mid-season finale, but I did see some scenes from it. After that, it had just gone too downhill for me. I found myself not caring about any of the characters. The only ones I actually liked, and thought had some smarts, were Strand and Nick. I couldn’t stand the mom, or the sister. The step-dad and step-brother were annoying to me (they’re both dead now, I heard). I just really didn’t care about any of them, which is bad for a show like that. I really didn’t care if any of them died. No idea what’s happened since then, aside from those 2 deaths I heard about.
I thin Fear really killed the suspense of TWD. I mean you pretty much had zombies year round. Before you could build up that anticipation between season, but Fear satisfied the appetites for a lot of people, leaving less interest in TWD. But I haven’t liked the any TWD has been written since Negan showed up. Really the only things I’ve liked, have nothing to do with the show at all. Like the sneak references to JDM on Supernatural, like with the bat covered in barbed wire. That got a good chuckle from me. Or the little twitter or Instagram chats between the two.
But TWD iteself, I hated how they’ve written Darryl for a while. He was my fave before. He started going downhill back before Negan showed up. Back when they decided to do that zombie walk a few seasons ago that shockingly (not) went horribly wrong. And now there’s Negan, who I can’t stand. The show would be better if they stopped with the same formula over and over again. And it would be nice if they actually went around the country or tried to go up North and deal with snow, instead of still being near Georgia. It’s just gotten too repetitive. There really aren’t any characters I care about anymore, similar to Fear. I’ll probably eventually just stop watching TWD soon too. Hell, I might not even watch when the show returns in a few months.
Very true. The one thing that bothers me, is the fact that they have a time machine to solve all their problems. It's not like other shows that are more complex and draw you in because of great storytelling.
Really all of their problems will be solved if they just go back far enough in time and stop Rittenhouse ever being born. That's it. That's all they have to do. Simple. They make it such a big deal that the kid got away, when really the simple solution is to go back a day earlier, or 50 years earlier. Hell, why not just wipe out the whole family with the very first Rittenhouse? The fact that the solution is that simple, and the whole show is based around this whole Rittenhouse thing...it's just a bit absurd.
And of course that will never happen until the very last episode. They have a really simple solution to all of their problems, but of course they can't do it because otherwise there would be no show. That's where their problem lies, and it's likely why so many people stopped watching, or just never started watching this show. The premise is too dumb and simple, when the very thing that makes this show entertaining - the time machine aspect - is also what kills it.
It is a bit ridiculous. It's the same logic as, if you had the chance to kill Hitler, would you? Would him being a child really stop you, even though you KNOW the atrocities he would commit as an adult? It's ridiculous. Him being a child doesn't change the fact of what he turns into.
But considering they have a time machine, why not just go back to before he was ever even born, and just take out his parents? Or make it so they never meet. All they have to do is alter one day, because if his parents never hooked up on that one day, he wouldn't have been conceived. If he was conceived on a different day, he would probably be a completely different person. But really why take the chance? I'd just wipe out his parents, or stop them from ever meeting. They've already killed people, so they have no qualms about murdering someone. Yeah it would suck to kill someone who's innocent, but then that would Un-do all the other murders. I'm sure history would change in a huge way, but well....history is changing anyway on this show. They're doing a pretty piss-poor job of "saving history", and Lucy is really the only one who remembers a lot of these little facts. And why not change history for the better? She could have saved Lincoln, and changed the lives of so many people, and she didn't. Even her changing her mind at the last minute....she could have done it sooner and made sure Lincoln was never even in the building. This show is just beyond frustrating, especially with Lucy's whole "we can't change anything" crap. I can see why people stopped watching, hell I was even one of them. I stopped watching after 3 episodes. Saving the show for another season won't stop it from getting cancelled again next year.
