So...what is the point of this post? I mean, there is a great bit of fascinating information here, but did you expect a dialogue, or were you just declaring something?
This is definitely one of my favorite movies, but I think the Emily Blunt character was necessary, and I don't consider her to be the main character. She represents idealism, while Del Toro represents reality. And like you wrote, this movie is about the 'Sicario', and through this also the realities of war. They were both soldiers, but with different perspectives and goals, and this film makes the viewer brutally aware of the contrast.
The movie tells you what it means. It literally spells it out for the viewer in the opening moments.
Same here. Definitely an enjoyable, trippy horror flick. The last twenty minutes seriously creeps me out, with the cloaked figures and statues coming to life. And I really love the ending--going down to come up, it was a very well-done sequence.
Don't you mean way above...and below most people's heads?
Definitely one of my faves
I think both endings work. She's still haunted (and hallucinating), after all, just in different ways
(I won't watch the sequel because I think this film stands alone just fine)
@sut6432
I respectfully disagree with your position, and stand by my original post, but I appreciate your passionate response.
Just a side note: it wasn't Van Sant's idea to remake the classic Hitchcock film. It was a studio picture, and the studio was gonna make it no matter what. Van Sant took the job because--in his words--that way no one else would have to.
Right on!
I wrote a post on the page for the Van Sant version stating why I like both films, if you want to check that out.
Yeah, it's not really a horror flick, I just say that because of the vampires. I've always thought of it as a half n half type deal. The first part is a crime thriller, the second part is campy horror. And altogether...I guess it's a film of blended genres, or something like that.
I remember the first time I saw From Dusk till dawn, not really knowing what to expect, and that opening totally caught me off guard. Definitely one one of my favorite openings (and it's such a whacky awesome horror flick in general, such fun).
Yep, that's a good one.
I love them both.
I agree, super visceral opening.
I dont think the film was a complete letdown, but it certainly could have carried that opening energy better. And definitely not as unique as 28 days, but still pretty cool. A decent flick with a few awesome sequences.
Yeah, exactly. I've binge watched myself, but you should have the option if you are not in binge mode.
Totally agree
Lol, I hear where you're coming from. But I like being mysterious...
Amazon Prime likes to cut things off at the credits now, too, at least with television shows. Right now I'm rewatching The Sopranos, and discovered this the hard way. You have to press the exact right command (which is damn near microscopic) when it pops up in order to let it play through, and you have like five seconds to do it. I think they are catering to binge watchers.
Yep, I hate when the paid channels throw an ad over the end credits. Isn't the whole point of a paid channel to not have any interruptions through the ENTIRETY of the film? Makes me so angry, especially when the ad is for some show I am not even remotely interested in watching.
