I wondered that too.. it all seemed very professional.. but then I thought, perhaps they were filmed for a documentary at the time or something? I wondered how they made the money to travel around so much as well so thought paid tv appearances may explain that too
I thought the same!
I will definitely add that to my list of things to watch.. I know that they wanted to have a positive tone to the film with him winning but I do think it's white-washing his life story. We can tell he had issues but I thought the text at the end just felt a bit rushed... I think I would have preferred they didn't mention the rest of his life at all rather than just a couple of lines to explain the whole rest of his life.
I enjoyed it, but then, I didn't know anything about Bobby Fischer before so maybe I would feel differently if I already knew his story?
I do wish it had gone into more detail about what happened to him after he won against Spassky.. the brief text and clips at the end just didn't cut it for me. I think that would be a very interesting film for them to make in the future.
I think Tobey Maguire did a fine job, I bought into the character. I think they could surely have found some Russian actors though instead of using Americans.
This really confused me watching the film.. I'm too used to seeing people on iPads it took me a while to figure out what he was using!!
I really enjoyed it and thought they struck a good balance between the romance, the humour and the emotional side when Emily is sick.
I really liked the dads character, I thought his 'bad' jokes were hilarious (but perhaps for the wrong reasons).. I laughed when he told Emily to be careful not to go into a coma when she goes for a walk 😂 I also found the scene where Emily is being grumpy because she needs the toilet really funny (and relatable for a new relationship!!)
I was disappointed that they felt the need to have the family disown him, considering that apparently didn't really happen.. but I did find the scene where he went to the dinner with the conversation cards very funny too!!
Yeah, there's definitely no romantic love between the two of them so far as I can tell (Tyrion and Dany)... he may be jealous that he was the hand, and he was her most trusted advisor and now she seems to be listening more to Jon.
True, I keep forgetting because he only seems to show his Ice side so far... I don't want Jon to die but I think he might.
I think she will.. I think they mentioned it again for a reason and as Jon said, is crazy witch lady really a reliable source? I think some of the things she said will turn out to be true (ie the sun rising in the west and setting in the east, the seas drying up etc).
I was convinced it was the same actor when I first saw it but I know it's not.. we didn't really see him all that clearly but I thought he was pretty good looking.
I think he was worried about the impact the two of them sleeping together would have on the war to come.. People are much more willing to do what it takes if they have no ties.
I think in the end, Jon will sacrifice himself to destroy the white walkers and that Dany will rule (this will remove any question about which of them is the rightful heir). I do think perhaps she will be pregnant with his child so that it brings the fire and the ice together.
A kid.. you mean, like they were? They were teenage boys, do you really think they cared about keeping track of their bank accounts (if they even had them)?
Nonsense.. there were plenty of times when I as a teenager wouldn't have an alibi for my whereabouts, I was a bit of a social misfit too and so spent a lot of time on my own, listening to music in my room etc. Being alone, or not having a witness to your whereabouts does not make you a murderer!
The stepfather of one of the boys didn't have an alibi either and I find it much more suspect that he would be asking a friend to say he was with him after the boys had already gone missing.
A lack of an alibi is still not proof of murder though.. the DNA evidence is far more compelling and if it happened as they said it had, as part of some satanic ritual, there would definitely be some kind of proof!
I hope we don't look back on this and think what a massive waste it has been of a really great story. I think it's just such a huge, complex story, it is understandably taking GRRM a long time to write, but TV doesn't have this same option to take 6+ years between series and so has had to come up with their own ending (although I believe they know the general outline)...
I still really enjoy the show, most of the time leaps don't bother me because I just tell myself that the time has passed, they just don't want to show us all of that because they've got limited time and it's boring (like watching Jamie between killing Olenna and when he meets the dragon, they had to speed it all up).
The deus ex machina does annoy me though - particularly with Benjen turning up just at the right moment.
In Game of Thrones world, he's probably old enough to her grandfather! I think he's supposed to be about 30 years older than her.
For me, I would say yes. I enjoyed it and think it finished well.
I agree on that.. if I was Jorah, I would certainly rather see Dany with Jon than Dario!!
Definitely.. I think people just want quick, cheap and easy junk.. they're clearly not fussed about quality.
They certainly were naive but they were honest, hardworking men who just wanted their business to be honest in all ways too. Unfortunately, honest didn't make the sort of money that Ray Kroc was looking for and so he pulled it all out from under them!
