Personally I wish shows would stop it with tons of spin offs.. It's like you now have to watch 5-6 different shows to find out what happened to characters. I prefer when shows just have the main show really. Oh definitely. I would have preferred if Donna hadn't have came back in the 60th specials as it ruined her ending, made wise by the cheap confusing solution I mean this is the same episode that wanted us to feel for people dying that we knew would be undone so it doesn't surprise me I wouldn't say the ending was an ending in the sense that Ruby was leaving. She even asks the doctor to come back, she just needs time with her mother I don't think overnights really matter considering it goes live on iPlayer way before broadcast. It wasn't a good episode in my opinion but the new way the show is going live makes these figures a bit pointless Yeah I found the finale anti climatic so I hope they do something good with mrs flood. The problem with the pointing bit is if she's not pointing at Sutekh, then why is she pointing at a sign. If she's just deciding the name she would surely just decide it rather than pointing it out for no one. The whole it's not actually just normal and we read into it only works if they can explain it properly but they have put stuff in it that feels forced. You can see the writer in it - let's have her point a sign etc. With Susan, even a little scene at the end where he goes and watches her would have been nice. I'd hate for them not to use Carol Ann Ford while they can. As for the snow, it seems like they wanted to make her mother seem something she wasn't which to me could have worked a lot better without the snow, but they had stuff that wasn't possible normally to make it seem like a mystery only to then say it wasn't, making it feel anticlimactic. Also why would Sutekh even care who she was. He wants to kill everyone. So he can't see her face which surely you should have been able to, which further makes her reveal not work, so then he keeps the doctor and Ruby alive to find out. He wants to destroy the whole universe so surely he shouldn't care about who someone is? He's bothered about people being more powerful than him so if everyone is dead her identity is pointless. Also if he's been on the TARDIS this long, and only revealed himself due to wanting to know who Ruby's mother was, how long was he planning to stay on the TARDIS originally? I think it would have made more sense to have him latch on with reality being messed with with the toymaker as it seems odd that he's just been having a ride for all these years doing nothing Finally watched it and I also preferred the first half with the meta elements and bringing it into the modern day with gaming, VR etc. I like when the films plays with reality and you wonder what is real. Some good action sequences later but nothing that felt new I heard Carole Ann ford was on set or at some event or something so it wouldn't surprise me. Someone said maybe it will lead to the doctor just going to the future Earth he left her to see that she is okay. It does seem odd to bring it up as much. It would be nice to see the original actress return but at the same time it would need to fit story wise. It will maybe tie in to Ruby not being able to go and see her mother so the doctor should when he can I suppose showing past companions can also help new viewers know that there are past companions and there will be future ones. But I do get your point. I've seen people saying oh Rose should return and someone else etc. and it can get stupid. I don't mind if it fits the story and doesn't feel too forced or far fetched. I did find Mel was a weird one to bring back but she was said to be a computer genius so at least she has a reason to work in UNIT as opposed to just having someone with no skills in the role I think Mel was brought in to kind of do a Sarah Jane and bring a classic companion to modern audiences. She also didn't have a lot of back story in the series itself, often didn't get a lot to do. She was a tech person though so probably makes sense if the rumours about a possible UNIT spin off are true and at least they have done Bonnie some justice. I think that while some fans won't know the history of Sutekh, they have built him up to show how dangerous he is and we'll probably get some information in the finale. Kind of like when the master returned. I much prefer this over having 14 also existing as that is confusing for new fans and old Yeah this is basically a wait for the end episode. However I feel usually there is a bit more of something but it's hard to explain. Like usually there's a build up, something happens and something is explored but it felt like this episode was like right we have this to do and this to do, like it's going through the dangling plot points. The brigadier stuff I get but I wonder if that was for new fans to know. In Pyramids of Mars it does mention that Sutekh was worshipped as a god. If I remember correctly he may have influenced Egyptian religion but he was shown to just be a powerful alien. Technically the toy maker may just be that, a being from a different dimension where the rules of our universe don't apply. How they tie together is the confusing thing as it is hinting at Sutekh being their leader yet he isn't even from their world but maybe this will be explained. I am looking forward to the finale but also a little cautious. I feel that Ruby's mother may be revealed and possibly be herself but it feels like there's a lot to do in one episode. One of my biggest criticism with RTDs original run as showrunner is that he'd leave most to the finale and have little time to fully explore it while as I found Moffat would try to reveal little bits throughout and also often the first part was great but the ending could be a bit anticlimactic. RTD also has said he had no plans at the moment for the master but this could be a red herring. I do think the master could do with a few years off though. Why, because of one twitter post? It's not as good as it once was but there's been some really interesting episodes this season. The shortness of the season hasn't helped. Yeah I watch/listen to the review of death podcast and they mentioned how they have struggled with this doctor because they have made him too human. There is nothing wrong with seeing a more emotional doctor and someone watching their livestream review of the episode pointed out it actually can help to destigmatize the idea of men not crying, but the doctor usually works best when there is some alienness in their character/performance. They also pointed out how the crying at the end of the last episode made sense but it lost its impact because the doctor has done it in basically every episode. It reminds me of Moffat using the power of love or fake deaths, if you do something all the time, the impact isn't the same. They also talked about how there hasn't been any friction between the doctor and Ruby Yeah I've seen a lot of people happy about Richard e grant being on there but if your going to show non main TV series then what about Peter Cushing? It also seems an odd move considering they are trying to market this as series 1 but have included an animated non TV series doctor that even many 2005 and onwards fans won't know about. There was a rumour that this doctor may eventually regenerate into the valeyard and maybe they choose the face of the Great Intelligence Or it could just be RTD trolling Such a sad thing. So glad he got the cameo in power of the doctor Yeah this is really how to do messages in an episode. It reminds me of the original 1978 Dawn of the dead. The late George A. Romero liked to put in social commentary messages and this one was about consumerism. I watched it when I was young and didn't see the message but loved the film and then my appreciation grew when I realised there was more stuff under the surface. It wasn't subtle but the film works if you don't get it. If your just screaming the message or even speaking to the audience as if lecturing them like Orphan 55's ending, it just doesn't work as well and actually people will feel lectured. I also do agree about the previous episode. Revealing on her deathbed that the old women was herself just made things more confusing. How did she get back into the past, was she there the whole time etc. I also feel it had ideas, the Welsh countryside horror and the political element and both where interesting but never really explored enough due to the runtime
