Considering she could not seek employment elsewhere, was Merle actually an exotic dancer? Seeing her uncle's broken spirit was sad, but that was no excuse to attack his niece. Poor Queenie, surrounded by perverts, her racist classmate's sadistic dad, her pedo teacher, and her scummy uncle. At least her husband and boyfriend were decent guys. However I bet Queenie and her family would never imagine nearly a century later the UK would have an Indian British PM, nor how diverse the general population would be.

Same here. His humor was too dry for my tastes. But he was blessed to see his 90's. He outlived his wife and the two actresses who played his wives. Many have stated he was a very nice person as well.

I just saw the film which is excellent. It was sad and dumb regarding how they were received and treated. Considering this film is over 20 years old, hopefully some tourist's attitudes are more elevated and respectful now. But there will always be ignorant jerks in this world.
