It is dismaying.
But it might help to remember that, despite their somewhat fanciful claims to represent the majority, they're a statistical minority and a steadily diminishing minority at that. That's actually why they've become so vocal and aggressive in recent years. The world is changing around them. They don't like it. But they won't stop it, so it doesn't much matter.
I'm by no means a gay supporter, but I'd like to see your data that gays are a diminishing minority. Anecdotally speaking, I see exactly the opposite.

you are familiar with LAWS, correct? society has setup a bunch laws that most of us feel keep the world in running order over chaos. mostly to protect EVERYONE from bad people.
so, how does this work out? MOST OF THE TIME it is a deterrent. MOST of the time. BUT.... there are still bad people who break those laws and do bad things. THE EXISTANCE OF THESE LAWS WILL NEVER ELIMINATE BAD PEOPLE DOING BAD THINGS. Murders still happen, rape still happens, racism still happens.... all against the LAWS, but that is the best we can do.
Yes, bad things happen to gays also. You know what else? Bad things happen to other people because THEY WERE THERE, or they were white, or black, or male, or female, or a building with a breakable window.... bad things happen to everyone.
You're whining about violence against gays might as well be me whining about violence against my straight white people, or black people, or WHATEVER people. BAD THINGS HAPPEN. If we can stop all bad things happening to gays, we could also stop all bad things happening against whites, blacks, hispanics, women, men, WHATEVER. Laws exist, but will never be 100% as long as freedom exists also.
Gays have a ton of freedom and MOST OF US just don't care, but we're tired of hearing about 4% entitled to what... less violence is what you want? Gee, can I get that for regular people too, maybe? Less murders please, less muggings etc....
