What was the point of opening on a film stage?

I enjoyed it. But what was the point of opening (and ending) on a film stage? Is the director trying to say that we're about to hear a story? But that's true for every movie, no?

reply

It did seem pointless. Likely, the director explained his motivation somewhere (DVD commentary, media interview).

I read it as a way of indicating the main theme of the film is story-telling itself and the suspension of disbelief... so not so much 'you're about to hear a story' but 'you're about to hear a story about people telling themselves a story'.

It was pointless, but it was kinda interesting and didn't detract.

I guess it's a page taken from Hitchcock. His trailers would be kind of like this.... very "stagey" but then when you see the movie, it basically starts on the set.

Just saw this film, it's an okay movie. It kind of draws you in and makes you wanna know what's happening with the girl in question.

I'll give it a 6.0 out of 10. The sets and costume designs are the highlight of the movie.

Yes, and the narrator even says you're about to hear a story as they are setting the stage. In my opinion it was useless because we already know this as the audience. Seemed excessively artsy.

It ended the same way. I didn't see the relevance to it.
