A supporting actor nom for Denzel was the only realistic accolade for this movie (outside of the Best Makeup or Best Costume categories)

I love Denzel, but this movie was so bad even his supporting actor was not that good.

shareI love Denzel, but i didnt like his character in the movie. Either he didnt act the part as needed or the part just was badly written. Its tough to criticize him cuz i respect him immensely. The movie was closer to a remake than its own movie. Im talking all the similarities that drive the story. Obviously it has its differences as well
shareI haven't seen this movie but Denzel Washington already won an Oscar for best supporting actor for Glory and a best leading actor Oscar for Training Day. I don't care that he didn't get another Oscar for this.

the narrative is more about how Gladiator 2 got shutout (after Part I cleaned house at the Academies 24 years ago). Denzel’s nomination was considered the only chance that this movie had of getting acknowledged by the Academy outside of makeup/costume categories
What you said reminds me of a cousin of mine who said she hates that not only Gladiator won best picture but that Requiem for a dream wasn't nominated for best picture. I decided to look it up and Requiem for a dream was a collosal failure at the box office. It was one of the lowest grossing films of the year. Which is why it wasn't nominated for best picture. I don't agree with her though. Funnily enough the highest grossing film of the year 2000 when Gladiator came out was the Jim Carrey Grinch movie. So box office isn't everything.
