General consensuses seems to be while it's not as good as the first, it's better than most sequels.

The review also says that this sequel isn’t as good as the original; this movie won’t win awards as the original did. But Denzel Washington seems to be great, and the theatricality is pulled off well
I’ll go to the theaters to see it
Initial reviews could be full of shills and trolls, if you look at IMDB reviews, they are quite polarised, look like haven't been censored too much.
The 10/10 reviews could be shills, but 5/10 reviews are likely more honest.
They all say few things in common:
1) Denzel Washington is great, Paul Mescal not so much
2) Plot is a mess
3) Production, sets and fights are great
4) Hardly any character development
5) Overall, not as good as original, which is expected from a sequel.
Look like another brainless blockbuster.
I don't look at IMDB for reviews. Too many shills and trolls.
shareThe fact that Ridley not only thought that making a sequel to Gladiator was a good idea, but actually went through with it, just shows how incredibly far he's regressed (as if the Alien prequels weren't enough). Dude needs to hang it up ASAP.

Only 3 legacy sequels have been made that are better than the original and they are Mad Max: Fury Road, Blade Runner: 2049 and Top Gun: Maverick.
I don’t expect Gladiator 2 to be as good or even better than the first but I hope it’s a much better legacy sequel than Beetlejuice 2.
mumble rap could have saved it. such a shame it was only in the trailer
