Do you think this will flop ?

Or gross below expectations?

reply

Russell Crowe was a marketable draw. But Pedro Pascal? Meh.

If this movie bombs, then this doesn't bode well for Pedro Pascal in the new Fantastic 4 movie slated for July 2025

reply

I don't see it being a hit. I was surprised it happened.

Most likely imo. I think it will have a big first weekend due to the Gladiator name alone. But I just can't see it reaching the critical or commercial success of the original. Well it might bring in the same amount of $$'s as the original, but that was 24 years ago so thinking it probably needs to reach a billion to be a hit.

Do I think it will be nearly as good, no. Do I think it will mostly be a remake/reimagining/soft reboot of the original, yes. Will I still go see it, yes, it's Gladiator lol.

Everyone was saying Avatar 2 was going to flop and it ended up making 2 billion.

Different audience , different genera , different director following.

We'll see what happens.

PROBABLY..BUT WHO REALLY CARES?

reply

The director, producers & studio that craves their ROI

I do.

Reportedly, it's gone way over budget. Originally green-lit at $165m, but production costs have risen to at least $250m. At $165m, they probably would've been fine. I don't think it'll completely tank -- although it might. I don't rule it out.

At $250m+ though? I think in that budget range you need to have 'four quadrant' appeal. And, even though it's a sequel to a well-liked original and 'familiar IP', I'm not sure Gladiator has that across the board appeal.

Hard to tell. I think it WONT flop, but it’ll barely break even and be considered, however you chose to look at it, either a mild success or a disappointment. Kinda like Twisters; barely made more than its budget but was still considered a success to an extent.

By the look of the trailers I think it’s going to suck ass, so yes I think it’s going to flop.
