First of all, you don't know what "woke" means, like most of you dumb-a** trolls on here. And you obviously haven't seen the film, so stop fronting like you have. Second, one of the biggest movie studio in the world made this flick, and they made it because the first Black Panther film made nearly a billion dollars worldwide. And they're expecting this one to make nearly the same because there was clearly a big demand for a sequel. Oh, and the term "woke" simply means to be aware of social injustice going on around you. Your dumb troll a** clearly didn't know that, which is why you don't know what the fck you're talking about----dumb-a** trolls like you never do. And every film about black people isn't "woke", sometimes it's just entertainment. There are plenty of films that have been "woke" and have been box-office hits---you know, like the first Black Panther film. Now stfu and go see the sequel.

reply

Don't be so rude, nufsaid16! The OP has a good point. It seems that since 2015 or so, storytelling in movies has taken a back seat, and it seems that moviemakers (a lot of them, not all) are more concerned about inserting people of colour, gender and sexual orientation that is NOT white, male and straight to appease those people who have (somehow) felt under-represented since the birth of cinema, when they HAVE been represented naturally already and still are without having to change existing characters in such ways. And they're more concerned about indoctrinating viewers with their political messaging to accept the above "modern truth" instead of just entertaining people and earning their pay. It's no wonder people are disillusioned by Hollywood since trash like Ghostbusters 2016 or The Last Jedi and especially the disaster known as LOTR: The Rings of Power happened.

reply

Or the world is becoming more inclusive of races other than just white people.

reply

What makes you think it HASN'T been inclusive in the past? Do tell.

reply

Hmmm. Maybe look at the fact that there weren't many main heroes that were not white.

reply

Maybe look at the fact that there weren't many main heroes that were not white.

Why should there be? Back when Stan Lee started Marvel about 90% of the country was Caucasian. The great savior Black Panther himself was created by a couple of pasty white Jewish dudes.

reply

And now that has changed. Back then whitewashing was also deemed acceptable. We had to just deal with it. If a traditionally white role gets portrayed differently you guys lose your minds.

Times have changed. Doesn't matter who black panther was created by, the point is more diversity is inevitable. Only people who has an issue with it is folks like you.

reply

Martin Freeman as the next Black Panther!!!!

reply

"Times have changed. Doesn't matter who black panther was created by, the point is more diversity is inevitable. Only people who has an issue with it is folks like you."

Wrong. I was challenging your flawed logic and misleading rhetoric. Your implication was that black superhero characters were somehow being suppressed in the past and that because the USA has since become more racially diverse this means it's time for previously white characters to be replaced by minorities. Maybe instead it's time for new superhero characters to reflect the population, rather than poaching characters from the past. In fact, it is long past time for that. Instead, you get ludicrous, badly written characters like Riri Williams (who isn't even the first black Iron ).

reply

Your response does not hold up to scrutiny. Race should only matter if the race is essential to the character. For example Selina Kyle/Catwoman's race is not essential to her character. Therefore you are free to portray her as any ethnicity you want to. Black heroes were being suppressed in the past as you did not see many of them. A character being portrayed as white does not mean they have to stay that way. Again if the race is essential then you have a point. Anyway I am getting bored with you anything else or we done here?

moviefanatic505:

Ignore this racist p.o.s. This person, whomever he or she is, literally only comes on this board to bash any film with black people starring in it, whether they're actually seen it or not. They have being doing this racist bull**** for years now. To ccr1633: Having more diverse characters in films is not "replacing" white people, you stupid-a** racist. This is simply reflecting the reality of how diverse this country, and has always been, despite racist mfs like you. White people have dominated the film business for close to a century. It's about damn time that black filmmakers, directors and producers are getting a chance to make films that reflect who we are as black Americans in this country---our country, too by the way. Nobody gives a flat-out fck what your white supremacist a** thinks about that, because it's not about you or your racist a**. Nobody is making you watch these movies, so take your racist a** somewhere the hell else and stfu whining and complaining about movies you never watch.

There have literally been maybe three superhero films with a non-white lead made in the last five years---the two Black Panther films, Eternals, and Black Adam. That's only four films, and that sure as hell is not "replacing" any white superheros in film. This racist idiot ccr1633 has always hated black people and never has anything good to say about them. Fck him/her for spouting this same old tired-a** bulls**** over and over again. These movies are successful precisely because they reflect more of the actual population of this country, which isn't just white people---and which is why you hate it. Fck off, you wanna-be white supremacist p.o.s.

reply

Oh it is quite sad. If it ain't white it ain't right.

reply

Having more diverse characters in films is not "replacing" white people, you stupid-a** racist

Please tell me how a homogenous country is diverse?

The 2 writers and director are black. The main cast is black. Doesn't very diverse.

How come when a show/movie is all white it is problomatic and needs addressing but all black is diverse.

Seems hyocritical to me.

reply

Because when they say "diverse" they really mean "not white", and especially, "not white male".

reply

Absolute crap and you know it. There still exist movies with an all white cast. Diverse means exactly what it states.

reply

Go to the board on the Northman. An all white cast and you do not see people complaining about the lack of diversity. Different story with films like Black panther...

reply

Tell to the black valkery who is currently sitting on teh Throne of Asgard.

reply

Is she the lead in the Thor films? Nope Thor still is.

reply

Oh, you were talking about whole casts and suddenly you're talking about just Leads? How strange.... lol

reply

Because if the cast is all white and then they say diverse obviously to make it diverse it would need someone not white. The same goes the other way. In order to make Black Panther diverse it needs not just black people in it. I can only imagine how much of a heart attack you would have had if Black Panther had no white people in it. Funny how the Northman can do that without flak but other films can not.

reply

1. Nothing there explained why you moved the goal posts.
2. If BlacK Panther had had an all black cast, i would have been fine with it. Indeed, I thought the CIA character was utterly useless. The international thief character could have easily been black also.

reply

Yeah it did. No goalpost moved.

I don't believe you.

reply

We were talking about whole casts and when you were losing, you started pulling shit about leads.

I'm not the liar here, you are.

reply

Again so then factoring in whole casts whites are the majority. How are you the victim?

Also you have dismissed what I have said before also. Why is it a problem when I do it?

reply

That is also not what we were talking about. The fact remains. all white cast, diverse means, not white, all or mostly black cast and diverse means, people are fine with that.

I would not have a problem with an all black cast. Your refuse to believe an obvious truth, because your world view is based on lies.

reply

Diverse means what it means. If any movie has all one race that by definition would make it not diverse... Why is that such a hard concept to grasp? You trying to argue against the very definition of diverse now? You saying the dictionary is wrong? You are entitled to your own feelings but not your own facts. I will go with the dictionary's definition over your generalization/label.

You have no idea what my worldview is. You rely on generalizations. Which indicates you are an ignorant person. People who rely on generalizations are also evil.

reply

Diverse's meaning is revealed by it's usage. People like you use it to attack white people, and never non-white people.

Saying that "people that rely are generalizations are..." is a generalization about those people. By you. Dumbass.

reply

No it's revealed by what the dictionary says. Nope I don't attack white people. I don't call films with primarily white casts racist. That's you who did that with films like black panther which has a primarily black casts.

I said people who rely on generalizations are evil. Nice attempt to misread what I wrote. It's a generalization but unlike you I don't rely on them lol. Dismissed simpleton.

reply

1. I like that you pretend to be so dumb that you can't distinguish between "people like you" and "you".

2. I did not call BLack Panther racist because of it's mostly black cast.

3. And sayihng that about such people, is a generalization. You are stupid.

reply

You attempted to change what diverse meant not me.

Yeah you did. Nothing about the film is racist. You attempted to day the villain and hero see eye to eye. I disputed that point.

I didn't deny that. Thing is I don't rely on generalizations like you do.

reply

1. Pointing out how it is actually used is valld and NOT me being the one to "change it".

2. Nope. That you is you lying.

3. You make assumptions about how I use assumptions. That has nothing to do with me. That has to do with your brain flaws.

reply

I do not believe it is used the way you claim it is. To a hammer everything looks like a nail.

Nope I am spitting facts.

Yep since you did it to me I figured I would give you a taste of your own medicine. Annoying huh?

reply

1. Your belief is not needed. The reality of how poeple like you use it, is clear.

2. You are lying.

3, Your rationalization for your trolling is irrelevant. The fact remains, I do not have a problem with all black casts.

reply

Nope it is not. You do not have authority over the English language. I go by the dictionary's definition. Diverse means exactly what it states in the dictionary.

Nope I am telling the truth.

I do not believe that for a second. Go ahead and share publicly why Black Panther is a racist film. Post on a public forum why you called the film racist. Let the world see your ignorance.

reply

1. Not about Authority, it is about my argument. Dumbass.

2. You are a liar, lying.

3. You have no reason to doubt my word. You are just being a troll.

reply

I just dismantled your argument chief. What does diverse mean?

Nope telling the truth.

I have every reason to doubt your word. You have lied many times on here.

reply

Everyone on this site knows that you are a liar.

reply

Nope everyone knows you are a joke.

reply

Pointing out that how woketards ACTUALLY use the "diverse" attack, is not a joke, it is a valid and reasonable point. Your claim otherwise, is a lie.

reply

Not in your case. To a hammer everything looks like a nail. I despise right wingers like you. Since you do not want to grant any valid point to anything left wing I am not granting you any validation since you are right wing. Get back on 4chan.

reply

You hate of me is irrelevant. My point was completetly reasonable and valid. YOu are an asshole.

reply

I disagree I do not think your point was reasonable at all.

reply

lol!

reply

No retort. Does that count as a concession?

reply

Laughing at you is not a concessoin, you retard.

reply

I figured it was since you have no retort. Get off this board.

reply

reply

This is a film about a sub-Saharan African tribe. . . they are black 🙄

reply

did you really just ask that question you dumb fucking moron?

reply

Strange, I've seen plenty of women in leading roles in early Hollywood, not to mention lots of blacks in any roles and several asians, too, throughout the 20th Century.

Seems people are not mentioning those movies. I'm not citing any examples, google it.

reply

Uh, no---you don't know what the hell you're talking about either. The reality is, even white people want to see more than just the typical predictable white superhero films, and that's why films like Black Panther and its sequel, Eternals, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, and other have been big hits. I haven't seen either the 2016 Ghostbusters (which, let's be real, was slammed by some sexist online incels before it even came out) and I haven't seen the The Last Jedi. I've read all the about the controversy over LOTR:The Rings Of Power, and that's been happened only because a bunch of dumb-a** racist idiots act like there can't be actors of color in the story, which is really stupid and fckg racist.

It's the 21st century---old stories like Lord of the Rings need to be updated and made more relevant for our current times, which they have been. They don't have to stay lilly-white like it's 1953, when they were written. White people are no longer the only people who loves fantasy storie, or superheroes movies, for that matter. The worldwide popularity of current superhero movies like the Black Panther films and Black Adam (which is also a worldwide box-office hit) proves that black, brown and white people are paying to see these films, and obviously love the hell out of them. And guess what? Some of these filmmakers you mentioned who make these films aren't white males----Eternals, both Black Panthers films, and Black Widow were directed by female directors, and a black male director (Chloe Zhao, Cait Shortland and Ryan Coogler, respectively). These superheros films are getting more diverse because more diverse directors/producers/writers are making them, plain and simple. They are not "indoctrinating" anybody with any damn thing---when I saw Black Widow last year, the theatre was almost standing room only---I was lucky enough to even find a seat for myself. After the film ended, the two young guys next to me (who happened to be black, btw) were happily discussing how the film tied into the other Marvel films they'd seen.

reply

They weren't talking about any political message in it, or anything like that. The bottom line is, only white males like yourself are whining about the fact that these films are getting more diverse---that's what you really have a problem with it. Just admit that, and stop trying to come up with other stupid, lame-a** excuses as to why you have a problem with it. You're the one hollering about, "Oh, I hate these political messages in this film"---so what? Nobody gives a fck about that but you. Everybody else are just going to these movies, having fun with their friends, and being entertained. And FYI, movies have always been damn entertaining as hell, regardless of whatever political messages were in them---that's been true since the movies were invented.

The bottom line is, times (and movies) are changing, and you don't know how to deal with that, so you just bash everything you don't like. Too bad----it's not about you or whatever tired bull**** you're been whining about. These movies are being made primarily for the same reason all moves get made----because they're making big money at the box office. It's not about making some white dude (or white woman) like you uncomfortable because, for some dumb reason, you think you can't relate to any non-white people on a movie screen. Why not? They're people with hopes, dreams and fears just like you. Get over yourself, and stop acting like movies are only made for white people. Also, there were very few black superhero films made until Black Panther came along and yes, black people were under-represented in them. As a black filmgoer, I can tell you that, hell yeah, we were very under-represented in a lot of genres until recently, or not represented at all. That's the damn truth, whether you want to hear or not. All right, 'nuff said.

“Fronting”, lol. The 80s called and want their terminology back.

Word.

reply

Your outrage is so woke.

reply

And plenty of people on here want their political ideology echoed back at them. If it goes against their ideology they get upset. You can criticize any film you want but lets hear some critiques beyond wah I do not agree with the politics. That is shallow and old.

Funny, isn't it, how this minority-empowering superhero film is so bigoted. You must truly believe in the fake newfangled definition of "racism" to believe that isn't trafficking in outrageous racial stereotypes and is at best hypocritical.

[deleted]

Hollyweird already decided every movie and tv commercial must follow a generic formula.

When will people get tired of this.

The enitre film looked ridiculous

reply

If a movie isn't all white, there will be certain dumb-ass idiots on these boards complaining. Whether it's a just a few people of color, or the entire movie has people of color, they have immature and tasteless comments to make. What a angry bunch of people.

Here we are, in the year 2022, and idiots still are mad cause there are black people in something as simple as a movie. It just a effing movie, and all they see is what they detest. It it ain't white, it ain't right for these racist bigots.
