Is Euphoria popular because of Zendaya?

Is Euphoria only popular because of Zendaya or would it have been popular no matter who played Rue. Like what if they cast Bella Thorne instead or if the show came out a few years earlier starring Selena Gomez?

It’s popular—and good—in spite of her, not because of her Publicity Machine. She is easily the weakest actor in the cast.
