Basically the British saving Private Ryan

While not the same war..the same theme. Not as graphic SPR and the language is more PG..still I thought the movie was beautifully done and looked amazing on the big screen. There was a couple big pay off scenes that made the movie worth it in my opinion. I am looking forward to the Blu-ray so I can watch it with subtitles on as some of the dialogue was missed because of the thick accents.

I don't think it is anything like Saving Private Ryan.

reply

1917 seemd to miss a climatic battle(like at the start & end of SPR)

reply

This movie was nothing close to Saving Private Ryan.

reply

Saving Private Ryans first scene was good (although in reality there were only about 50 Romanian conscripts or some such defending their positions against wave after wave of Americans) the rest was typical American sillyness that no one outside the Sates takes seriously.

reply

Please elaborate a little more on this statement.

reply

If it resembles anything, it’s more like the final act of Gallipoli stretched to a full-length movie.

I don’t really see any similarity with Saving Private Ryan.

reply

Don’t see it. No.

Questionable comparisons to Spielberg’s film aside, 1917 is fantastic. It did live up to the hype, for my money.

reply

Eh i think he means the Premise (going on a somewhat mission impossible to save a sibling)

reply

"I think he means the Premise."

Yes, so do I.

reply

Bingo.

reply

I get that. But that aside, in my mind the two films are completely different.

reply
