In The Empire Strikes Back why didn't Darth Vader...

... simply use the force to stop the Millennium Falcon taking off from the rebels' Hoth base?

Why didn't he just pull the ship out of the sky using the force?

But Darth Vader isn't in the escape scene on Tatooine, he's on the Death Star.

I can only imagine that the OP is thinking about the Falcon's escape from the Hoth base, and he WAS there.

reply

Yeah, sorry good point - Was thinking of Hoth as per the AMJF's comment...

I'll edit the OP.

The falcon was too far gone by the time Vader entered the hangar.

reply

Na. He quite literally watches it flying out.

reply

He was still too far away.

You must have been watching a "special" edition or something. Here's the actual film:-

He was still much farther than in this show.

Its a plot hole

Perhaps there are limitations in using the Force? Different Jedi's have varying abilities, so even though Yoda could lift a stagnant ship out of the swamp and set it down on the bank, it might have been beyond his ability to snatch a craft from the sky and reel it in. Same for Vader.

reply

He is referencing this as in the new episode of Kenobi, Vader pulls a ship down using the force.

I guess he just forgot he could do it.

More crap writing from Disney

Sounds like it.

Actually that's a great point, referencing that classic OT scene with Yoda. Quite possibly the greatest, most magical moment in Star Wars (with that incredible score) as Yoda, showing incredible concentration and will, lifts Luke's X-wing out of the swamp.

It's an iconic cinematic moment. Contrast that with the ridiculous continuity busting scene in Obi-Wan which seems to be taking its beat from copying a video game, while ignoring the fact the Vader couldn't do this in key scenes in previous instalments.

I mean, even in Rogue One - which I loathe - couldn't Vader have really have used that ability when the Tantive IV was flying off with the Death Star plans? If only he'd used that then, we'd have had no Episode IV...
