Don’t be confused about the title The Apprentice. This is not a movie version of the NBC reality TV series in any way, but instead a smart, sharp and surprising origin story of the man who hosted it. In this case the actual “apprentice” is Donald Trump, infamous real estate developer, former President of the United States and current presumed GOP nominee for 2024.

But the political Trump is not in Iranian-Danish director Ali Abbasi‘s compelling film, which instead zeroes in on a specific period of Trump’s life in the early ’70s when he was in his 20s and struggling to make a name for himself in the world of real estate in New York City. But it isn’t just about him — it is equally focused on his unique relationship with his lawyer, the notorious Roy Cohn, often referred to as vicious, cruel, ruthless and sadistic, a take-no-prisoners cutthroat attorney who would win at any cost. The filmmakers have cited movies like Midnight Cowboy, Frankenstein and Barry Lyndon as partial inspirations for their approach, the latter about an 18th century social climber who stands for nothing himself.

Trump and Cohn would become an odd couple, helping each other achieve their end goals at the time. That is the story of The Apprentice, which had its world premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday and still has its U.S. distribution rights for sale.

Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Trump's campaign, threatened legal action against the film due to its depiction of a rape scene involving Ivana and Donald Trump.[17][18][19]

Dan Snyder, formerly the billionaire owner of the Washington Commanders NFL team, donated money to the production of The Apprentice with the impression that the film would be a positive portrayal of Donald Trump. Snyder is a close friend of Donald Trump who donated $1.1. million to his inaugural committee and Trump Victory Committee in 2016 and $100,000 to his 2020 presidential campaign. After seeing a cut of the film in February 2024, Snyder was said to be furious and lawyers for the Kinematics production company sought to fight the release of the film.

Oh the irony. The film is too rapey for him. But Trump likes rape.

Knowing Hollywood Democrats, they probably just ripped off "The Joker" and put Trump in the role.

This is just the usual election year political ad, like "Fahrenheit 9/11," etc. People who are already Biden voters will go to it just to "support it." All others will likely stay away.

I heard they put a fake "rape scene" in the film, claiming that Trump raped Ivana. However, Ivana has repeatedly denied this claim, as have many other people, including the guy who helped fund the film, and it's basically nothing more than a shitshow smear campaign that idiots on the Left will eat up like it's the truth. They keep claiming Trump raped women all over the place, and yet none of them have any evidence other than the 17 women Hillary paid to come in with fake sob stories.

Meanwhile, their boys such as Biden and Clinton get off scot-free while they can rape all they like and nobody bats an eye. Don't you just love Democrat Elite privilege?
