Does it mess up the Conjuring Universe continuity?

I finally watched it. I enjoyed it. Better than the first Annabelle, but not as good as the second (IMO). But chronologically it is supposed to be before The Conjuring movies, yet they have the Perrons music box. And I remember early in production for the third one they may have parts of their werewolf case in it, yet Bob was attacked by a Werewolf (or Lycan). Seems odd they would switch things around just to shoehorn them in. Maybe I'm wrong with the timeline, it jumps around a lot.

It occurs after Conjuring1, but before the second.

1952 The Nun
1955 Annabelle: Creation
1967 Annabelle
1971 The Conjuring
1972 Annabelle Comes Home
1973 The Curse of La Llorona
1977 The Conjuring 2
1981 The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

But it doesn't. Annabelle comes home occurs before 1971, where The Conjuring is set. It takes place after the opening of The Conjuring, but before the main movie.

So it actually goes:
The Conjuring opening
Annabelle Comes Home
The rest of the Conjuring movie

That's what I took from it. They take Annabelle in the beginning of The Conjuring and then ACH is a year later and The Conjuring is (I think) a year (or within the year) after that.

Why do you say the rest of the Conjuring is after ACH?

Can't it be that ACH is spanning years. The opening in is 71, the babysitting part is in 72?

reply

That would make sense. I was thinking all of ACH takes place in '71 before they meet the Perron family. If you're correct about the jump to '72, that would make sense and tie that loose end up. I don't think in ACH it says there is a time jump, but if we assume so, it works.

I hated to even bring it up, because they have done a good job with their world building.

We can just agree it is so :)

I do though get the feeling the opening merely told the story of how Annabelle got to the basement of the Warrens, that was it.... and then their daughter and her struggles are later in life.... it works this way.

Works for me!
