will Hamill appear?

Its not like hed say 'no' to some extra SW cash

I guess hed be pretty put out if they hire Sebastian Stan instead lol

reply

This show is supposed to be 5 years after ROTJ. Hamill couldn't pass for 5 years older than his 1985 on his best day.

reply

CG?

reply

i would like to see some hologram images of the ot heroes and a mentioning or two of what they are up to.

reply

No. Please don't go down the tired old road of stunt casting.

This show works best when it concentrates its energy on good scripts good acting and very good practical effects.

I will cite the example of the early teaser trailer for The Force Awakens. There were reactions of people literally crying on YouTube when they watched it. And primarily for the reveal of Han and Chewie.

And yet look how that turned out...

reply

Ok

reply

Well [SPOILER] looked great, does anyone know exactly how they did the special effects?

reply

Looked like a Deepfake

reply

Yeah, but did it involve MH himself, or some stand-in with a slightly altered MH voiceover?

A good deepfake, I must say, more convincing than the Moff from "Rogue One". That one didn't seem to yield to gravity like a living body does.

reply

Luke had a stand in/stunt guy with the 1983 Luke deepfake tech over the face, Hamill voice over.

Rogue 1 was like an animated thing . CGI recreation of Cushing over the actor's dotted face like Polar Express/Avatar/Apes etc ...

so they must've has seen all the YouTube deepfake videos and been like 'damn its better than our stuff, lets just do that!'

reply

I'd say this wasn't that great of a deepfake - pretty similar to other hollywood produced ones. Once youtubers get on the case, only then will you see a decent deepfake. All of this confirms that hollywood shows are nothing more but money laundering operations.

reply

Hollywood has been a for-profit capitalist enterprise from the beginning, they are in the business of producing entertainment that people are charged money to see. I don't have a problem with paying Disney+ to see stuff including this show, unlike most Hollywood crap it's decent value for not much money.

Not quite enough to reconcile me to capitalism in general, but it's a start.

reply

Uh, did you not read maximmm's comment? He was saying that Hollywood's standards are beneath YouTubers' standards, and he's right.

Luke's deepfake looked better than some awful CGI reprint, but nowhere near as good as some of the best YouTube deepfakes out there, especially the Rogue One deepfake and Tron: Legacy deepsakes, the latter of which literally looks like real life.

reply

Sadly, I have a real job, and am therefore unable to spend enough time comparing youtube deepfakes to the Hollywood ones, and am unable to comment on that particular issue.

Except to say that yeah, my real job has made me bleary enough to misread the intent.

reply

No worries.

If you have a chance, check out this deepfake here. It's one of the Irishman, featuring a deepfake of a younger Robert Deniro. You'll get what everybody's criticism is of The Mandalorian after you watch it. It's only a few minutes long but it's fantastically done:
https://youtu.be/dHSTWepkp_M

You'll see what I mean regarding the rather poor job of Luke's deepfake in The Mandalorian by comparison.

reply

I'd rather a deepfake than SeBaStIaN sTaN!

reply

I believe you are correct, sir!

😎

reply

no, it was cgi, if it was deepfake, it would have actually looked good.

reply

I thought it looked terrible.
