The mother was the most annoying character I've seen in any animated film.

I understand overprotective parents, but there was no logic with her. She would witness kids laughing at her daughter because of something she did, and yet she continued to embarrass her throughout the film. She wasn't oblivious, she was just overprotective and didn't care. She kept getting kicked off the school grounds by the security guard, but she continued to come to the school to embarrass her.

There's a fine line with being overprotective and being completely ignorant. At times I even felt like she was a stalker.

No, the kid - and her friends - were the most annoying characters ever.

Meiln's mother was the primary antagonist. Being annoying was part of the reason she was the bad guy.

Yes, the mother was massively annoying, as was the lead girl, and all the other kids. But you know who the most annoying person involved was, by far?

The dipshit who wrote this script, that's who! Gawd, this film was such a massive failure on all fronts, that I felt embarrassed for everyone involved.

I liked it. Watched twice in a week.

It's nice that someone liked it!

I take it you aren't a teen girl?

reply

I'm an old white guy. Retired military, gun nut, gunsmith, shooting coach. :)

I have a 10 year old black granddaughter with a big mouth like Meilin

reply

I can't imagine that a girl in her early teens would react to this film with anything but horrific embarrassment.

I'm old and white too, but I remember being a teen, and that's not how teens want to see themselves.

reply

As a teen I did things that I later thought were embarrasing. Watching teenagers behaving well might be rather boring in a comedy animated film. :)

reply

Everyone *does* embarrassing stuff, but do you want to watch movies about the embarrassing stuff you've done?

No, IMHO teens are like everyone else, they want their entertainment to take them away from everyday life's annoyances and humiliations. But this movie is like a well-meaning adult who won't stop saying "Your body is changing, aren't you embarrassed? Isn't it HARD to discuss pads and bodily functions? I'm here if you want to talk, come on LET'S TALK, I know you're feeling awkward but LET'S TALK, because I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL, but all the shame you're feeling IS REALLY A SUPERPOWER...".

reply

It's an animated version of "Teen Wolf".

reply

They were all freaking annoying the girl and her friends were unbearable but yeah the mom was just too much.

reply

I've never seen a character so oblivious to how her actions affected another person.

What we should remember is that Ming once injured her mother when she was in her panda form.
That is probably why the grandma has a scar over her face.
And I guess that the fear that Mei would do something similar made Ming go crazy.

reply

But she should have realized that she was making things worse for her daughter.

reply

Yes, but you will seldom see common sense in an overprotective parent.
