The Beatles: The GREATEST band in history
Talent, humour, charisma, recognition from public, peers and critics alike- for generations.
Detractors can cry.
Talent, humour, charisma, recognition from public, peers and critics alike- for generations.
Detractors can cry.
I agree.
One of the key characteristics that makes their music so timeless is the way their songs can be reinterpreted / arranged without losing any of their charm. I have heard jazz, classical, ska, reggae, blues, even baroque arrangements of their songs and they never fail to entertain.
That's true of many many bands. That is not unique to the beetles.
shareWas about to agree with you but the more I thought about it, it is somewhat unique to The Beatles. Virtually every song they’ve every done, possibly LITERALLY, has been rearranged, interpreted, reinterpreted multiple times nearly always effectively. I honestly can’t think of any other artist or musical group that has had this level of attention paid to their repertoire.
shareNever heard a decent jazz cover of their boring music.
shareWithout a doubt. I remember they were popular when I was a kid, but I didn't realize the musical genius they had. Lennon or McCartney alone would have each been a great frontman for a band (and McCartney was later), but some of their best songs were written by Harrison. The talent and creativity and energy was astounding.
shareYou could say the same about The Rolling Stones as well
shareStones are low class
shareThird rate low class.
I will no doubt get a heated argument, but nonetheless I will say what I've believed for years, to all of my friends and acquaintances; the Rolling Stones did not write any songs.
Their name is an example of cosmetic exaggeration. Instead of "Stones", it should be the component of stones, namely Dirt.
They are overrated and just got lucky, like every other pop star in such an inferior music genre. The fact that your favorite band is one of the most famous bands of all time is very telling.
shareObvious troll is obvious.
shareI'm not a troll just because you don't like what I'm saying : )
shareNo, you are a troll because, unlike any other band, they didn't "just get lucky", they've had more movies made about them than any other band, they have their songs covered more than any other band (I once had to explain to some dumb goth chick when she said her favorite band Siouxsie and the Banshees is the greatest band because of their song "Dear Prudence" and had to tell her that that was actually a Beatles song. She was not happy. Same with the dumb redneck who thought Willie Nelson wrote the song "Yesterday" again, a Beatles song.)
So yes, either you are a troll or just a plain idiot since you don't understand musicology, history and/or the importance of the Beatles and the innovations they made both in the studio as well as in songwriting in numerous genre's, not just pop (you fucking clueless fuck.) Again, it's why their music is timeless, and people STILL cover their music and make movies based on their music, over and over and over again. Now go wipe your nose you little snot...
Guess what? Having movies made about you is no argument, you fucking loser. I know you've got a tremendous hard on for the Beatles, I see that and I get that, but you cannot even create an argument to defend your pathetic position. Just like everyone else, you think POPULARITY equates with having the best music. I mean, even if I agreed with you on their "importance" to music it still wouldn't change a damn thing about their existence being completely insubstantial...in fact, if there were less butt kissers like you had they not existed I'd say the world is better off without them. Of course, I know you would be getting a hard on for a different band that would have 'changed society' that people revere and get influenced by their music instead. Not a damn thing would change.
shareThere is seriously something wrong with you and it's becoming obvious that you're just another incel troll; some fat loser that spends all of his days on the computer trying to stir up shit. No, I don't have a "hard-on" for The Beatles, but as a life long musician, composer and music historian, I actually recognize the importance and significance of the Beatles. The fact that you keep calling them "pop stars" when they moved well beyond pop after their first few albums, shows that you have absolutely no clue.
And no you stupid fucktard, it's not just about being popular, it's about being timeless, having their music STILL be relevant almost 60 years later. No other band in the world has achieved such status. Here is an example that you won't get because you are too brain dead; in 1974 Led Zepplin released what is considered one of their greatest albums, and yet, it couldn't compete that year on the charts with The Osmond Brothers, or The Monkees, both of whom were way more popular and had at least 5 hits each in the charts... that doesn't mean they were better you stupid fuck, popularity NEVER means something is better. It's the substance of the music; the songwriting, and production that constitutes what is good. And that's what makes the Beatles so great.
Just because you don't like them (because you don't even understand any of this and probably haven't even heard more than a handful of their early "pop" songs) you automatically think they are overrated. What a sad, pathetic stupid fuck... and the proof that you are all those things is, just look in the mirror. look at your life. Look how you have wasted time being negative against a group that every single musicologist, music historian and critic has agreed are the greatest band ever. Not because of popularity, but because of the substance of their content. But you'll never understand that because you are just some dumb nobody with no talents and no goals in life, which is why you have to tear down others.
"No, I don't have a "hard-on" for The Beatles"
PSH, yes the fuck you do but the problem is you can't see yourself acting dramatic and butt hurt over these pop songs. You just sound like a crying baby calling me names ten times while providing little in a way of rebuttal for your claim that the Beatles are objectively the "greatest band ever", as if something like that can even exist. "Look at your life"...haha, loser.
WAAH all the "musicologists" (it's hard to imagine a more useless profession) said so!!! When you say "greatest band" does that mean ALL bands or is it stuck in your little narrow-minded taste of rock and roll knowledge? Does it include jazz, classical, other forms of world music and do you have intensive knowledge of those genres as a "music historian" (okay, I was wrong, THIS is more useless). I'm sensing you are trapped in a bubble with fake legitimacy.
The sad thing is when I Google "greatest band of all time" it is overwhelmingly pop music, mostly rock, and mostly white artists. Now I'm FAR from an SJW, but it is common knowledge that black artists were highly influential but were held back due to the racial prejudice of that time. That's just one more reason why I know that popularity is a shitty reason to hold these artists with such high regard. I recognize the contributions of musicians I have never heard of and those behind the scenes "helping" these pop stars get up on these lists with your precious Beatles. These lists, of which all of the "artists" I have heard of, is a huge ass red flag. This is the same culture that deems these dudes the greatest of all time.
YES THEY ARE POP STARS. Their popularity is undeniably the reason idiots like your put them on a pedestal of importance. You're too dumb to see that this is your entire argument.
"It's the substance of the music; the songwriting" They just got lucky and no one would give a flying shit about their music if it came out at the wrong time and wasn't promoted by the right people.
I understand that maybe Beatles were some of the best of the extremely POPULAR. They were privileged to last long enough to develop new directions in their music which is not an opportunity granted to the vast majority of pop stars because pop is inherently commercial. Classical and jazz musicians can NEVER achieve what the Beatles, or anyone else on these "greatest bands of all time" ass-kissing lists did.
Are you trying to tell me rock and roll is superior to these entire genres Mr. music historian?
That because no jazz or classical song will ever come close to being as influential to modern music since instrumental music is inherently less popular among the brainless masses, that rock and roll is SUPERIOR? Does music need VOCALISTS to be the best?
I don't know a shit ton about music history, but I understand humans. I understand the fake bubbles they create, and I know their hierarchies make them "feel good". I know placing these Beatles as "the best" fits into their narrative that there is always some royalty or "president" at the top that we all know is "the best", when the truth is pop music is always inferior, and built from vastly more talented precursors, that may seem less "relevant", but are not objectively "less good". You think they're great because of their influence, but it is inherently unfair to judge all musicians based on this standard of using the ATTENTION they grab. People having not heard of a musician is a shit criticism of their art.
Actually, another thing, go read the book "Outliers" as it will explain how the "greatest" of any industry, whether it's the Beatles in music, or Wayne Gretsky in Hockey, or whomever, all have one thing in common... they put their 10,000 Hours in to become the greatest. Not just luck, but more sweat and work than any other in their particular industry. There is a myth that the Beatles came out of nowhere, became popular overnight, and that's what made them famous... just "luck!" But they always forget to mention the time they put in playing 8 hours a night, every single night for two years straight in a strip club in Germany to hone their skills.
Don't know why I am even bothering though when I know you don't actually listen to facts or logic or reason... you are just a stupid fucking troll that has absolutely no clue what you are talking about. Are you related to Trump? You sound like that type of person, when given all the facts, from all the scientists and/or historians, you just throw your hands up in the air and proclaim "fake news!" Fucking moron.
Any professional ballet dancer does more work then the damn Beatles and none of them are famous. Fuck you and your obsession with famous people.
shareProof that YOU are the one that lives in the bubble, no famous ballet dancers? Really? You never heard of Baryshnikov, Nureyev, Pavlova? Come on, Baryshnikov at least as he's been in a ton of movies and tv shows...
And it's obviously no use arguing with an idiot like you who has no clue... you even admit you "don't know a shit ton about music history" and I promise you, you don't know much about humans either. As both a Music Historian and a Psychology major, I know quite a bit about both. I gave you clear rebuttals, but just like a typical Trump support denying science and facts, you just want to cover your ears and scream "fake news! fake news!" and that right there exposes you for the troll and the fraud that you are. Conversation done.
Nope, never heard of them PRIOR to getting into ballet and I bet no one in my family has either. The only dancer that has enjoyed enough popularity for anyone in my family to know their name is Misty Copeland, and that's just because she rides the race train. Even being in movies isn't enough for us to have heard of Baryshnikov. You don't think we pay attention to every actor in every movie do you? But that wouldn't count anyway! Since people hear of actors, not dancers. Thanks for proving my point.
It must be pretty unpleasant having someone without your background in music history waltz in and easily expose your ignorance, hence why instead of any rebuttal to MY rebuttal, you compare me to a science denier and claim I made no rebuttal. But I obviously did. It sucks that the foundation of your learnings are intellectually bankrupt, considering the so-called 'best' musical bands are a bunch of rockers, but that's how it is sometimes. Time to move on. If you want to be a good psychologist you'll need to learn this.
No one but you said they were the best "musical" band. All I am arguing is your lame comment that they are overrated pop musicians who got lucky, which is simply not true by ALL standards. And it's too exhausting trying to go through your ridiculous arguments that hold absolutely no water, for example:
Your statement - "They were privileged to last long enough to develop new directions in their music which is not an opportunity granted to the vast majority of pop stars" really!? The Beatles had one of the shortest careers recording together for only 6 years and being about to produce such a wide variety of critically acclaimed content that has, to this day, STILL endured (hence yet another Beatles-based movie and hence what makes you a fact denier, you fucking idiot.)
Let's compare that to the Beach Boys, still going to this day with an almost 60-year career, yet still doing the same old crap they've always done (with the exception of the Pet Sounds album which today is considered groundbreaking, but back then, was a flop.) Or the Rolling Stones, also still going for 50 years doing the same crap, and I can go on and on...
The point is, there is a reason why the Beatles are praised so much, and why their music is STILL relevant today more so than just about any other artist. And the fact that you continue to deny this despite all of the facts, shows, again, that you are either a complete idiot with absolutely no clue, or you're just trolling... either way, I don't have time for this shit anymore. So, fuck off.
"No one but you said they were the best "musical" band."
The title of this thread is literally "The Beatles: The GREATEST band in history" and you've clearly come here to defend that position, as you told me "every single musicologist, music historian and critic has agreed are the greatest band ever" and some babble about how "the greatest" put in the most work. You dummy.
You've presented some inane positions that you've thankfully abandoned. So the last thing you can find to try and argue against me is the comment about the time the Beatles had to produce content, which you fail to realize is contradictory. Wouldn't it be MORE impressive to have a long career with memorable content than a short one? You brag about the Beatles having a "short" 6 year run (this is subjective) and how those other inferior artists are still doing the "same crap". Sounds like it would be a lot easier to quit at your prime than to keep producing "ground-breaking" content for 60 years.
What you said made no sense at all. And last time I checked some of the members of the Beatles are still alive and creating music. Did their ability to create revolutionary music become extinguished just because their band broke up? This wouldn't happen with real musicians in distinguished genres of music where TRAINING is required (that happen not to be the most popular, but who gives a shit!) Quick check of Paul McCartney shows he still makes music I've never fucking heard of, including a collaboration with Kanye West! LOL you get the fuck outta here.
You're just a complete fucking idiot, seriously. Not worth arguing with you. I'll go back to my initial response to you... Obvious troll is obvious. The proof is that you are not just arguing against me, you are stating things that go against every fact, historian, etc. as I mentioned before. No, it is actually very impressive that in their short career AS A BAND together (you stupid fuck) that they made SO many great songs (that actually touched on various genres including Jazz, Classical, Musique Concrète, pre-punk rock) that STILL, to this very day, are revered, are covered by other artists, and are having movies made about them STILL. No denying the facts (you must be a Trump supporter) thus you are a fucking troll. So how about you get the fuck outta here you stupid fuck.
shareYou sound like an idiot with a limited vocabulary using the word "fuck" over and over, probably because you are one. YOU'RE the halfwit who has the obsession with movies and covers as criteria for musical greatness. That's fine if that is super impressive to you, but that doesn't mean they have the "best music". Whatever quality within music that makes people want to cover your music or put it in a stupid movie, that is LUCK. Surely there are forms of music that do not appeal to the masses that are completely brilliant. If you came here to argue that you are impressed by long-lasting music, or music that our popular culture just happens to appreciate, that is an entirely different position that I don't give a crap about. Going back to this movie, ain't no one would care if this stuff came out now, it came out at the RIGHT time, again, part of luck.
Enjoy your silly world where a garage band are the musical messiahs, although their apparent songwriting brilliance is nothing when they are tested individually, what a strange coincidence!
As I mentioned in my first response to you, Obvious troll is obvious. You are proving it over and over again. No need to say more, just go back and read our whole conversation dumbshit. Or better yet, look at the facts...
shareI get called a "troll" ALL the time by those who have run out of arguments.
shareNo, you get called a troll all the time because, if the shoe fits... and you ran out of arguments from the beginning. You deny logic, facts, etc., so if you are not a troll, you are just a plain idiot. Give it up, move on.
shareWent and responded to someone calling me a "troll" right after replying to your nonsense. "UR A TROLLL" #2 https://moviechat.org/tt5580266/The-Hate-U-Give/5bba838db76a7300138ed62d/Pure-unadulterated?reply=5f46e6bbd5469576b68705ee
shareSo, if everyone keeps calling you a troll because of your idiot behavior, and yet you keep doing the same thing over and over again, that is the very definition of insanity. You should seek professional help. Seriously.
shareHappy New Year idiot, you're still wrong. And I don't give a fuck how many other idiots call me a troll.
shareMan, you really are pathetic to be starting the new year like this... so sad.
shareI will end it this way too you numbskull.
shareOk "Melissa" go back to playing with your Iguana... you know, reading back through these posts, I could have sworn you were the typical pathetic incell 20-something male troll with no life, sitting on his fat ass replying with the most ill-informed opinion on topics he knows nothing about (thus the fact that EVERYONE calls you a troll!) but the fact that you are a woman really baffles me as women are usually smarter than this and not so pathetic... the fact that everyone calls you out and you don't get it, is the very definition of a mental illness, so with all due respect and sincerity, please seek help, as this is not healthy the way you are living. Seriously.
shareY'know, it makes a lot of sense that someone who thinks pop stars are the best musicians of all time is also a sexist dumbass. I know I'm no expert on music history, but I can guarantee you this, if the Beatles were to come out today, NO ONE would freaking care about them. At best, they'd be an indie band featured on "Saturday Sessions" on CBS: This Morning. That's IT. Because your academic interest is a complete fraud. Like wine tasting. This is why I l like science. I like REAL facts. No musician is going to be objectively "the best", ESPECIALLY in pop music! Which is inherently designed to favor musicians that are inferior. And I will never tire of reminding you that.
shareOh, you're back, how pathetic. Again, you stupid fuck, I never said they were the best, my only argument was that they are not JUST a pop band, they had evolved so much further than that in a short time, and that they were so original and pushing the boundaries (along with timeless songwriting) is the reason why they are STILL relevant today!
But besides the reading comprehension issues that you obviously have, you also don't seem to understand FACTS that are staring you right in the face! Since you last posted, there has been another 2 documentaries about the Beatles with yet another one on its way... because they are still relevant! (you idiot)
And after seeing the mini-series with Rick Rubin going through all the master tapes of the Beatles with Paul McCartney, now I am changing my tune... they WERE the greatest band ever, in any genre; because they worked in all genres (Pop, Folk, Jazz, Classical, Musique Concrète and Experimental, Hard Rock/Punk before there was punk, etc.) they pushed boundaries, invented new techniques of recording, and did it all in a time when everyone else sounded the same. If you truly believe in "Facts and Science" and truly want to educate yourself, then I urge you to watch the miniseries "McCartney 321"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAkqy5QntGQ
But I am sure you won't even bother to watch because you are a pathetic shit of a trolling human being...
No duh I'm not watching that. You've just watched it to confirm your bias that they are the best, and if you actually believe you didn't think that before I guess I know you better than you know yourself...you're not that complicated of a person. You've revealed how exceptionally nutty your bias is if you think they've done respectable jazz or classical. I prefer quality over quantity and I don't really give a shit how many genres they've attempted to work with. But OF COURSE you think they are the best because of some documentary, since you're into pop stars who are the most famous and tend to have salivary documentaries made about them. When will you wake up from this illusion? Although honestly they sounded even less fanatical in that trailer than you do.
shareBlackbeard, there are always going to be contrarians simply for the sake of being contrary, alas. Often with some obsessively personal bone to pick, too. But the Beatles are & will remain immune to them. And we know it.
Alas, fuck off. I have perfectly valid opinions and they are not just "contrarian" just because you don't like them.
shareWho are they?

shareBest band ever no question. Not only that but an actual band that wrote played and performed. No collaboration crap.
share
