Who would have preferred all eight episodes released at once?

I would have preferred all eight episodes released at once. Prime is a streaming service and the main benefit of streaming is the ability to binge content. Netflix has been good about dropping the whole season all at once.

The writers are playing a game with the identities of Halbrand and the stranger. They are using elements of mystery to make up for slipshod stories. Tolkien Middle-Earth stories were not mysteries so it's inappropriate to make the viewers play guessing games regarding the identities of these characters. Their little game would not work if they released all the episodes at once. Another mystery is the chest that the dwarves open at the end of episode two BUT they could just show the viewers what is in the effing chest. They tried to play the same game with the identity of the dragon in Wheel of Time BUT the identity of the dragon was never in doubt.

The element of mystery will work short-term for episodic content but it will fail once people can binge all of the episodes in a day. If the story stinks, the element of mystery will just turn viewers away.

I think they should have released all the episodes at the same time because the show is slow and plodding. Had to retain interest for a whole week when it's so boring.

I'll probably see it through, but it's getting almost as slow as "Wheel of Time."

WOT was a fun watch but I always look on the net to figure out the various mysteries. This show is different since we don't what will happen to the original characters. I don't really care what happens to the faux Tolkien characters BUT it might be fun to watch them all die.

I feel you. I am waiting for the entire season to be out and will watch it then.

I respect and envy your discipline. I should do that but I'm starving for high fantasy. I know one guy who waits for all seasons/episodes of a show to be released before watching it.

reply

Yes, I am for binging. I hate having to wait a week between episodes. But I see why they want to string it out.

It possibly generates more excitement with a weekly release of episodes. The message boards activity might be prolonged with a weekly release since we can all debate the new mysteries and controversies of each weekly episode.

No, keep the torture going...

One thing was for sure last night:

The episode felt a lot longer than 1h. I don't know if it is because it was boring or some other reason but at some point I was like "how is this not done by now, it's surely more than an hour already - wasn't even close.
