It may be the darkest comicbook movie ever. I've seen as dark or darker films like American History X, A Serbian Film, The Rape of Nanking, etc. but those aren't comicbook movies.
This movie is brutal though. The violent scenes are explosive and quick without relying on gimmicks. That's what make them great.
Instead of trying to create iconic scenes ended up played again and again to the point of desensitization of the audience, the director chose to not glorify the violence and presented it as is. It's a "show don't tell" approach.
The movie's moral is exactly that. What we need to examine and do to prevent the mentally unstable part of the society from going berserk; by showing how a man descends into hell. I hope it inspires people and the government to put more care for mental health problems and services.
