Poor Finney

Tries his hardest to escape out of the house by opening the combination lock, but it makes a noise and wakes up the Grabber. What's worse, when Finney's on the brink of getting help, he has a knife held to his throat which is the ultimate way of silencing him and watching that potential help vanish. I felt so bad to see the hope drain from his eyes like that.

I didn't find it convincing how the grabber caught up to him, but I really did like their struggle, and the knife scene, and how that basically reset the whole imprisonment for him.

reply

I think the Grabber caught up to him simply because he had been locked away for days and was half-starved and dehydrated by his incarceration.

reply

LOL that's a good point. He probably couldn't run very quickly or very far.

reply

He could have chose to run up to a house and start banging on the door…or at least not running down the middle of the street where the Grabber’s van could easily chase him down.

Again, standard horror flick bullshit that sophisticated audiences are sick and tired of having to ignore.

reply

Kingswood, HE'S A CHILD, who's been locked away for days, half-starved and very thirsty, and it was the middle of the night! Can you honestly say you'd think rationally while trying to escape from a killer like he did? COME ON!

reply

"sophisticated audiences"

lol There's a big difference between acting out of convenience for a plot, and acting in a substandard manner. This wasn't standard bullshit. And calling yourself sophisticated just doesn't automatically make your point true either.

reply

and where was the brother when he escaped.

reply

Probably out getting drugs.

reply

The Grabber buried an axe into the head of his brother in front of Finney, remember?

reply

i meant when the kid first escaped and was caught.

reply

Oh, I see. Maybe he was sent out so that the Grabber could play that sick game of his, waiting for his victim to climb the stairs to where he was sitting so he could torture and kill him?

reply

I felt bad for him when he couldn’t break through the freezer and started crying. 🥲 I felt his pain during that moment.

reply

Well, the movie wasn't ready to end, and it was one of those "too good to be true" scenes. I was surprise he even got out the house. The camera kept fading back and forth between Finney at the door and the Grabber in the background. I thought any moment now, they would show the Grabber's face turn towards the camera, and Finney gets his ass whooped. But he actually got out and started running. And of course he didn't do any of the things we want him to do in the real world, such as scream HELP, bang on doors, run through backyards where the van can't get to, etc.

reply

I've explained it elsewhere why he didn't react rationally. And I thought he did cry out for help at one point, hence that household with the porch light coming on, but since the Grabber had him silenced by then with the knife at his throat, he couldn't do any more.
