A nice "short" superhero themed film. Sony definitely have the right idea. Marvel always loses their minds with 250 million plus budgets. It's great that they introduce the characters with all these films. And they are doing a good job.
A nice contained film with good action, and of course humour. Venom is very funny. Mrs. Chen is a star lol. I really like Tom Hardy in the role. Carnage was good. Woody Harrelson was ok, not great.
Tom Hardy as Brock is the best decision related to these movies. I myself liked the first one better than anticipated. Though they should just go for it and make the next one rated R and I don't know, get a better writer or editor since that seems to be the most common complaints.
I don't have a problem with simple and fun, but this was terrible slapstick comedy in a movie that should've been violent and dark, wouldn't mind a touch of comedic moments here and there, but this was overloaded with terrible comedy. There was not a single moment where Eddie Brock and Venom was acting the least bit serious, even when confronting Carnage Venom was trying to be funny "Oh no that one is red!".
And Carnage being in love with Shriek i didn't care for, she should not have even been in the movie, she was awful, it should've been Carnage with no attachments violently killing people, instead Cassidy was constantly worried or being in love with Shriek instead of worrying about killing and going on a rampage.
I agree, it had dumb slapstick moments, like Venom cooking etc. But that is the direction American moviemaking has been going for years. I can't remember the last time I saw a good comedy. And, comparing to some other dumb stuff, this ain't half bad.
