Just because her girl wanted peppermint ice-cream? So? What does that have to do with anything? I don't get it

At one point she's shown opening a package the two homeless kids gave her and finding a box of cookies similar to GS cookies. Maybe those were peppermint cookies?

Because it’s hot and spicy, like the story is supposed to be, and because the entire project was creatively bankrupt and it seemed like a good (SNORT, sniff, whipe) idea at the time, and because the moviemakers don’t give SFA for the audience.
