Anyone finish it? I liked it but... (possible Spoiler)

That 'Happy Ending' where most of them got to live their lives seemed very out of place, even the Dad who while he died got to be with his wife and daughter. I was expecting something much darker at the end.

ditto

Yeah I loved it, but I felt the ending didn’t fit with the rest. Not sure I liked the ending.

Yeah, even the Dead ones getting a happy ending really diminished the impact and importance of their deaths. One would think being stuck in that house for all of eternity would be unpleasant. It was very AHS:Murder House.

The ending was way out of character with the rest of the series. All of a sudden in the last 1/2 hour or so Hill House turns out to be friendly and just misunderstood? Seriously?

Truly, up until the ending I thought I was watching one of the best television shows in the supernatural horror genre I had ever seen. The episode where the entire family disfunction'd in the funeral parlor, shot in a "Birdman" style with just three cuts until the final few minutes, was virtuosic filmmaking (and acting for that matter).

Tagging a happy ending on this series felt a little like suddenly seeing Winnie the Pooh come dancing out of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre house. It just felt wrong and spoiled an otherwise excellent series.

I have to disagree. That funeral episode was extreme cringe for me. Yes, those long shots were swell cinematography. But I don't watch things for cinematography (though BAD camera work can really ruin something), I watch for good storytelling. This show stumbles at that a lot in places. Especially in that episode. All of the cussing and arguing and "dysfunction" of the family, didn't feel natural. It didn't feel well plotted or paces, certainly not well-written. It felt forced, chaotic, and like actors were just saying lines (often over each other). And many of those lines were almost laugh out loud worthy.

Well there’s no accounting for taste. As far as I’m concerned the only problem with that episode is that once you begin to notice the lack of any cuts, you start paying attention to it and watching for places where they could’ve done some kind of edit, momentarily taking you out of the story.

Opposite for.me, I thought all the monologues the characters delivered in that episode were done really well, and the camera work was of course great (which isn't a huge deal for me, but it was noticeably good).

I didn't dislike the ending, a lot of horror genre pieces have bleak endings. After three deaths, the family deserved a reprieve. Not all the ghosts in the house are happy either, there are bad one, such as Poppy Hill.

Definitely, to the point of being uncomfortable to watch. Incredible work.

I loved the ending personally, but I totally understand and respect why it would rub some people the wrong way. The show was so relentlessly bleak up until that point, that I think a downer ending would have made the story feel stagnant, like nothing changed. The characters were miserable in episode one, and by the end credits they're still miserable.

The ending was a real slap in the face. I really enjoyed the show but that lost it a couple of points.
