Simple film trying to be clever

But sadly fails.

The plot is entirely predictable + simple to understand and the motivations of almost every character is not often believable.

The cliffhanger also seems extremely low stakes (because you already know they won) and the action piece looks budget.

The trailer is the coolest part of the film.

Simple to understand?

I can’t say it’s good because that’s subjective but after a few viewings I can at least appreciate it. It’s actually well done as you would expect from Nolan and I don’t think he meant for it to be considered as deep thinking because all is explained throughout the movie.

I saw the Foundflix review on YouTube and that finally helped my stupid mind to think good and know stuff. 6/10

I get the impression it's like every other Nolan film - pretentious and deliberately obtuse to make an ultimately inconsequential (even preposterous) story seem like it has some deep meaning. That is, if the same stories were told in in a straight-forward manner without all the playing around with time that Nolan insists on doing in every film, they *would* be simple - and preposterous. His movies are like Sudoku puzzles - the "fun" is in figuring them out, but ultimately there is no value in solving them beyond the mental exercise.

Out of interest, have you ever seen the chronological version of Memento?

It's included as an easter egg on the R2 DVD. It's interesting from a technical point of view, but it doesn't work as a thriller because there are no surprises for us. The thing about the way Memento is structured of course is that it puts us in the same boat as Leonard. We know as little as he does; when he meets someone he isn't sure if it's for the first time, and neither are we.

Of course, if Nolan had actually intended to release the film in a chronological version I'm sure he would still have structured it so the mystery aspect was preserved, so I'm not saying for a moment that it couldn't work without all the backwards-forwards shenanigans :) (Hope that makes sense)

you assume they won because the grandfather paradox is proveable? when in fact it is not, and that is explained inside the movie. how did you know they already won without following the whole story?

this IS a fun clever movie, messing with how we normally watch movies: FORWARD in time. They literally flip that and that makes it harder for us to grasp or accept.
