Just saw it, a masterpiece, love it, I give it 4/10

1 point for the time gimmick, never saw that before, but the trailer show all the action scenes.

1 point for acting: Kenneth Branagh should stick to acting, not directing, his best performance since Wild Wild West.

2 point for the brand: Nolan. His name is like Apple logo, you can brag to your friends on FacebooK, IG, Twitter.

Kenneth Branagh was great in this. His best work.

Im not a huge fan of John David Washington but he as great in this as well.

I felt the freeway sequence was weak : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6723592/mediaviewer/rm465207297
I felt the finale shootout in Russia was very weak:

Yep, the big weak spot to this film is the action set pieces. Nolan just didn’t step up and he hasn’t changed his directing of action at all. For example some shots in the freeway scene are very reminiscent of the police convoy scene in The Dark Knight.

Even worse is the music is too fast and intense for the action which seems too slow.

The Matrix Reloaded highway chase for example is so much better directed and edited to the musical score that it’s so much more thrilling by comparison.

I 100% agree. Ludwig Göransson score was good ( not great ) but added nothing to the action sequences.
Also that no one is killed / shot on screen makes the finale shootout very bland. Again very similar to the shootout in Inception.

reply

Absolutely, I do think the Inception finale is much stronger though. Hans Zimmer’s score really elevates it and I was much more invested in what was going on for the characters in between the gunfire and explosions.

With Tenet the finale was weak and I wasn’t invested in much of it at all, which is a shame because I’ve never been like that with any of Nolan’s other movies.

It sounds like it could be worse than Interstellar.

reply

Implying Interstellar is somehow bad. If you said Dunkirk, that would be understandable

reply

Dunkirk was a good, solid movie. Interstellar was the worst Nolan film. 5/10 from me.

reply

I enjoyed it considerably more than Interstellar. Probably my least favorite as well, though close with Dark Knight Rises. After first viewing I think I'd rank Trnet 5th among his features.

reply

I haven't seen Dunkirk yet--been meaning to get around to it. I'll have to check it out. But Instellar was *much* better than Tenet imo.

reply

That might not bode well for me then. Interstellar was not very satisfying for me and if Interstellar(5/10) is much better, then Tenet might be a trainwreck. I guess I will have to see.
