Damn, Nintendo be micromanaging the hell out of the voice actors.
Just found out about this the other day.
Apparently, plot details were kept secret from the actors during recording. According to Charlie Day, he mentioned that he had to record his dialogue in many different ways, after which the directors selected the version they believed would be best suited for the scene.
No wonder why Chris Pratt looked so tired during that clip shown right before the new trailer last week. Might be the reason why his voice sounds the way it does. With him having to do several takes over and over, and then they finally pick which one they think is perfect for the scene. Must be an absolute pain to do when you're voicing the main character like Mario, and you're in pretty much every scene.
I understand Nintendo wants this movie to be good, but they need to chill out.
SEGA does what Nintendon't... and allows their actors to do their job and voice act. Seriously, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles sound great in the movies, but Nintendo is too scared to trust in the people they got in their roles?
Micromanaging sucks because it's usually always about not even trusting people to do their jobs correctly. I had a job like that last year, it really sucked. With them constantly looking over your shoulder and ready to pounce for even the smallest mistake.
