“That will always be one of the biggest mysteries,” Johnson said. “You have the biggest opening of your career. Sure, no China, which could’ve been maybe 100 or 200 million more dollars. You have a superhero and you want to grow out the franchise. You bring back Superman and Henry Cavill, which the world went crazy.
Well he fought to bring back cavill which led to the whole 'im back'..'oh, wait im not back' fiasco (and possibly led him to drop out of The Witcher) as he was promised hed be superman in multiple movies (The Flash, MOS 2, Black Adam v Superman, etc),
its like The Rock could see DCEU was in turmoil so made a play to control the DCU with BA ('the hierarchy of the DC universe is about to change') and using Cavil as a weapon to his advantage (see? we giving the fans what they want!). and it mightve worked had it not been for Gunn being appointed new overseer of DCU.. The studio mightve just allowed the DCEU to continue with Cavill & The Rock (BAvS, MoS2 etc), Gadot doing WW3, and maybe even bringing back Affleck for his Bat movie, and (the big one) Synder for JL2
Oh, he definitely saw Cavill as a 'weapon', just a commodity that he thought he could exploit for his own ends. In the end they both paid the price for it.
Black Adam is known for being Shazam's arch enemy not Superman's.
If The Rock didn't want to be a villain or fight Shazam then he shouldn't have agreed to play Black Adam, there's plenty of other characters he could crap on.
It happened too late, audiences didn't care, it lost over 100 million dollars.
Thing is Black Adam is not a well known comic book character or a house hold name, just wasn't a character to have a solo movie or have a shared universe centred around him.
