So is the movie itself actually any good?

Putting aside all the other discussion, how was the movie? I have heard some different things, but does it still succeed in telling a mostly faithful adaption or did they end up wrecking the story?

My daughter and her friend went to see it on Sunday. They are 12, they loved it. They said it stuck pretty close to the original. They added some extra scenes but pretty much the core movie is the same as the original from what they said. I'll wait to watch it when it streams.

I heard it was a boring, empty, soulless shell compared to the original.

Yes, it’s great and is fairly faithful to the animated version.
