This could be a huge hit for Sandler.
Most of his serious movies have bombed but this one might be different. He might win some awards for this one.

sharemovies like this cant flop. The point of them is not to make money in the regular box office sense.
shareAgreed. Some movies are more intended to win awards, and awards winners rarely make much profit if any. But after you win the award, you tend to make a profit later on in other projects after gaining recognition.
sharei liked it. imo they shoulda cut a half hour out, but overall it was good
shareSandler has like 3 enjoyable movies, everything else is complete garbage and seeing how people on this board want to convince themselves otherwise really makes me wonder where is the limit at which we would stop trying to convince ourselves that awful actors are good for some reasons... ah and what the hell, I leave this board.

shareI concur. Water boy, lil Nicky, and big daddy.
shareI enjoyed Litlle Nicky and Big Daddy, but didn't really care for Waterboy. I would personally say that Anger Management and Happy Gilmore can make my list of Sandler's enjoyable films. There is also Mr. Deeds that had its moments, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's a ''good movie'' per se, it just that it gave me a few laughs here and there, while most of his comedies I find them simply painful to watch and they don't make me laugh at all.
A lot of people defend his dramas like Reign over me or Punch-Drunk Love. While I admit that I didn't watch Punch drunk love, I have no difficulty to believe that it's a good/great movie consedering that fact that it was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, a great filmmaker. It is in my future watchlist, so I ask people to not give me shit for this, wait for my next statement.
I'm obviously in the monority with this unpopular opinion, but I found Reign over me boring and not really relevant. I can go with emotional stories, but watching a 2-hours long movie about a guy grieving the loss of his family in a well-known tragedy to (without any surprises) find something that gives him the peace of mind does not exactly fit my personal criterias of what I'm looking for in movies. I found these kind movies empty because the only purpose seems to be the compassion we should feel for the character and the hope that everything turns out okay (which it usually does, hence why I said ''without any surprises''). Here again, there are movies like The Shawshank Redemption which did it with a lot of care and were effective for me, but here I didn't really see the purpose other than giving me some kind of example of how a person who lost loved ones in this tragedy dealt with it. Yes, I can give Sandler that he wasn't bad in the movie, he was even quite surprising compared to the acting level he gives in 90% of his other movies. But I didn't like the movie, so I don't give too much credit for his acting.
With all that being said, I can concede that it's not a ''bad movie'' per se, because it still had some depth to it and, obviously, the majority of people liked it so... it is a personal opinion, nothing more. And I can also add that it's not the worst movie which has 9/11 as subject (even though here I wouldn't exactly say that it's about 9/11 but more like a personal journey after the event, and the event is just the cause of all this). No, this recognition goes to Oliver Stone's World Trade Center (2006). Now THIS is a total piece of garbage.
shareHave you seen his performance in this film or are you just assuming that he's not a good actor in it?
shareFor me he has one good movie, "Uncut Gems". This is the first time that I've liked Adam Sandler in a movie.
shareIsn't a movie that is expected to make lots of money. Why are you posting such stupid shit?
shareVery fitting for a movie about gambling, you have lost your bet. Highest per-screen average in the history of A24. It's been very profitable already and there will likely be an oscar nod or two..
shareIts not a movie about gambling. Howard is a degenerate and gambling is just one of his many flaws.
