Absolutely loved Golden Compass movie
Not enough love though, the movie was protested because of claims of anti-church or whatever. I never got around to playing the game. So I should watch this?

shareNah, it's just more politically correct, ethnically diverse "woke" crap from the BBC.
I felt like Golden Compass movie looked and felt like the book. I don’t feel like this feels right, although the story is still good. It is, however, told in different order... for instance Will’s story, which starts in 2nd book, is introduced earlier, and takes us away from Lyra’s story. The CGI is terrific.
shareThe movie had all the perfect characters, even crazy Nicole Kidman fit the part.
shareI agree. I don’t get why it was panned like it was. They were going to do a sequel, but it didn’t take off so the plan was abandoned.
shareYoure quite wrong there.
The Golden Compass did very well, but New Line screwed up.
They presumed the US box office was going to do mega business, and sold off the international rights too cheap.
In the end it did so-so business in the US but did excellent overseas, but New Line didnt get to see any of that because they sold the rights off.
That is why they didnt do a sequel because New Line screwed up, and Warner Bros shut them down because of it.
The movie was terrible,, this ones way better what are you guys smoking?
shareI just watched this movie again on account of being cheap, lol. The movie is far from terrible, Harry Potter and Divergent are terrible by comparison. The film is constantly in motion and moves to all different locales.
shareAfter the first episode I decided to put it aside for a bit.
I still think Pullman's trilogy was the best young adult fantasy ever and I absolutely loved it when I read the books first.
But since then we've had so much YA stuff. The damn Harry Potter alone (which is not even in the same league as HDM) alone had been around for a decade. I'm just tired of the genre.
I think The Golden Compass felt more adult but this I'm having troubles getting into. But it looks great and the casting is superb.
I actually liked the movie, but it only makes sense after reading the book. It wasn't perfect, but you're right, it definitely had the look and feel of the book.
This tv show, on the other hand, looks like dog crap. I can't believe, 12 years later, they can't manage to make a decent tv show version of this with a large budget. The moment I saw that ridiculous, dark-haired, too-old Lyra, I said "Screw this! I'm not watching this crap!"
The movie was ruined by the studio when they took the director's ending away with the intention of using it for the beginning of the second film (which never happened). Perhaps if the studio had let their director keep his vision with the darker ending the film might have been more successful in the USA and they could have continued the series. I really hope there will eventually be a GOLDEN COMPASS director's cut.
shareSadly, that makes a lot of sense. Thank you.
I loved the movie, and haven’t read the books.
I really wanted to love the series but I think I have a YA fantasy overload.
Which is a shame - the books are most definitely in the top 5 of the genre.
The Golden Compass movie was a steaming pile of dogshit.
