is every episode gonna feature an awkward scene with Rufus
denouncing racism of a time period while the other 2 characters brush this off or cringe at the obvious racism while not being able to soothe his concerns?

God right? I thought the exact same thing the moment I saw him climb into the machine. Is he going give a huge speech like that at every episode as well?
shareI'm guessing there'll be a conflict with him wanting to stop the MLK Jr assassination somewhere along the way...
shareUnfortunately my guess would be yes. It's one of the things that I don't like about this show.
Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar and doesn't.
Unless Rufus is being set up to get a taste of REAL racism by going back in time and ends up appreciating what the present is like, this will get old VERY fast and end up being a deal breaker for me. I'll see what happens next week when the team goes back to Lincoln's assassination.
shareIt will be funny if they go to a time period where there are signs up saying, "No Irish Need Apply" or drawings of Irish looking like crazy drunken animals. Then Matt Lanter's character can get beaten up and thrown out of a place for being Irish. Then they need to go to a time period where someone tells Abigail Spencer to go make them a sandwich, slaps her on the ass, and tells her, "This is man talk, you wouldn't understand." Then the Rufus character should act all shocked and say, "Wait a minute, I thought my race had a monopoly on bigotry against them? What's going on here?"
shareHahaha
shareI don't know if you have noticed but anti-Irish people have just about vanished now and sexism against women has been cut back an awful lot too. Meanwhile, America's first lady is being called a gorilla and black kids are getting shot in the street by cops.
sharejohn-webb-970-879318,
My post went so far over your head it isn't even funny. For one, I was being sarcastic, facetious, and satirical. You missed the point probably because you are British and not American. You also think you can lecture an American about their own country. Stick to the UK please.
I just look at all the comments on this subject alone. We are one episode in and already the racist are coming out complaining that it's leftist propaganda clearly you people have a problem with black people it's pretty obvious to me by your comments you are hate is showing.
All you right-wing nutjobs that watch the shows and then come on the board to complain and b**** and moan about it why don't you just keep your little TV on Fox News and never leave your house.
Yeah! Let's continue to whitewash American history and pretend racism isn't a huge part of our DNA!
shareBut we know whee your going to live when you start a family.
shareWe don't need it shoved down our throats during a TV show.
Get busy livin' or get busy dyin'
Unless you are a racist then it is not being shoved down your throat. It was a reality of the time. I think a lot of people have also not cottoned on to the fact that the racism of the two cops was also a plot device. How else could they justify giving them a good beating and locking them in a cell? If they had offered Rufus coffee and donuts and chatted to him about Jazz music it would have made the main cast members look like utter scumbags if they had then beaten them up. By making them nasty racists it made it "OK" to bash them about and then escape.
shareHe made it sound like there is no more racism in 2016
shareMaybe let's wait and see a couple more episodes until we get our knickers in a twist over something that, to date, happened exactly once?
God forbid a present day black man be given a modicum of satisfaction by telling racist monsters that another black man will one day be president. Can't have that, can we.
Every single episode? Yeah, no, thanks.
shareIf the show is going back to a certain period then it has to be faithful to the time-period unless its evidently an alternate reality. I can understand how it can get annoying but its not inaccurate example of what happened back then. Plus, I doubt many would allow the show to get away with overlooking other historical accuracies.
shareThen leave Rufus in the damn ship. A) he's just the pilot anyway, and B) in those situations he is 1000 times more of a liability than a benefit. What did he contribute in the first episode besides serving as a distraction, which frankly the lady could have done equally well if not better by just taking off her bra?
share^THIS
sharei wasn't annoyed by any of that.
i did find it awkward that when Rufus brought up the issues about the racism and hostility he'd face in the past, it was as if no one else had ever considered that. the soldier guy didn't even listen to him while the history professor simply looked horrified that she couldn't soothe his legitimate concerns.

i dont know why he was even so smug about it. yeah obama is president but blacks are still bottom of the barrel social class whether by design or their own actions. so no, they didnt "win"
