Was there 2 calvins?
There was one outside that got in through the thrusters and then we see one on Hugh's leg. I am cornfused.

That should be "were" there 2 calvins.
π
''That should be "were" there 2 calvins.''
Correct- 'was' in this tense is incorrect. Might pass in the States, but it's wrong.
That was what I said above, thank you. When Bubba disagreed, I backed off since I did not want to start an argument.
It's a minor grammar point which many people do not know.
Just out of idle curiosity, where are you from? I'm an American.
π
Whats the point of correcting peoples grammar on the internet?
share
I seek to bring enlightenment to the masses. If you're offended by that, sorry.
BTW it doesn't take a Masters Degree in English to know simple grammar. All it takes is a rudimentary understanding of the King's English.
And the correct word in this context is were.
π
Saying it is wrong is just your opinion. You have provided no facts to prove that my grammar is wrong.
share
Nope. Not an opinion. Fact.
π
Nope, no facts were presented to refute your claim. So its still your opinion.
share
It's a fact, Bubba.
I'm not going to waste my time googling grammar to find the actual rule, Bubba. But if you'll just check with your 7th Grade English Teacher (or any English Teacher), he/she will confirm that.
π
Nope, just saying its a fact doesn't make it a fact. Facts are proven by providing facts which in turn makes them a fact.
Any more?
It's a fact, Bubba.
π
Possibly a fact but I am not sure.
share
I am.
π
I am that I am.

To be or not to be.....
π
English is not everyone's first language and it's arrogant for you to make passing judgement on those who lack the rudimentary skills for it.
You're English huh?
Nope. Guess again.
π
"He's dead."
Well you clearly consider the Queen of England as your sovereign so you impress me as a British subject though usually non English are not as worshipful of the Queen as you seem to profess. So you are rather peculiar.
And honestly you should familiarize yourself with more languages other than English to expand your narrow view of grammatical perfection.
Nope! Guess again. I don't consider her my sovereign because I'm not British. I really couldn't care less about her and the other "Royals". If you will check, I mentioned the "King's" English. It's just an expression of speech, not a declaration of loyalty.
BTW, I do speak a bit of German and Spanish, but I would never attempt to correct someone's grammar in those languages. But I do know grammar in English. In this context, it's condition contrary to fact, so "were" is correct. Just providing a public service.
BTW, if anyone finds a grammar mistake in one of my posts I would be delighted to be corrected,
and thus receive enlightenment. I for one, love education, and know that our education never ends.
π
"I AM the FBI."
PS No need to be nasty vicky.
π
"Has my watch stopped or is that one of the Marx Brothers?"
Unless you have a Masters Degree in English then you have no idea what you are talking about. What I love about the internet is that most people enjoy correcting others grammar rather than just answering the question.
shareThere was one outside that got in through the thrusters and then we see one on Hugh's leg. I am cornfused.
Ok thanks, I am glad it just wasn't me that was confused by that scene.
shareI thought it was the same calvin. It came in through the thrusters and we see a POV shot of it jumping though a junction before it closed.
shareNo, it was the same creature. The only conclusion I can draw from the black guy not saying anything when the creature got through one of the hatches before they were closed and attached itself to his leg is because it also had a telepathic ability (not only was it able to read thoughts telepathically, it could also control thoughts/gain knowledge via touch (why the black man didn't warn anyone when it attached itself to his leg), and which is why it inserted its tentacle into the black astronaut's throat near the end - to gain knowledge how to sabotage an escape pod, when it became aware of the last two remaining astronauts' plans)
shareThanks for the explanation. I will definitely have to watch this more than once when its released on disc.
shareUmmm, nope. Did you not see Black guys' atrophied legs when they showed it at least 2-3 times before? Black guy has an injured spine and no sensation in his legs. When the creature attached itself to the leg the Black guy just didn't feel it.
shareIs that why his eyes rolled over when the creature attached itself to him?
I saw that moment 2 times just to make sure - his reaction was definitely abnormal.
The black dude couldn't feel his legs, so was unaware. It's a sneaky alien, that is all (and to be fair it sneaked up on people a fair bit in the movie to hint at this). The scene where it flies past the black dude and he 'just glances' at it is the hint that it is 'with him' or close proximity, instead of killing him the alien is smart and decides to attach himself to the scientist.
shareThere was 1. It came in through the thrusters. Just before they seal themselves in that section they go on walkies and Hugh sees it but then it turns out it was a seat belt. But somewhere along the line it attached itself to his leg. They don't show that explicitly as it would then ruin the surprise that it was in there with them in the sealed section.
shareYeah the scene was confusing as heck, I figured oh maybe first Calvin had somehow impregnated black guy when he had wrapped himself around his hand earlier in the film, but it turned out it was just the same Calvin--they just decided never to show us a scene of Calvin wrapping itself around black guys leg.
share I thought it was the same calvin. He got in through the thrusters then snuck on on the black guys leg. The creature was roughly the same size right?
I watched this the other night with some buddies and they both thought there was 2 calvins as well. We see one fly past the portal on the outside of the ship and then there is one on Hugh's leg.
shareThere is a scene where we see the temperature gage of a thruster rise and then fall as a voice over explains "we just let it back in". I agree It doesn't make sense how a thruster can be somehow used as an airlock but are people not recognizing this scene as the explanation for how calvin got back in?
