He still has money tied up in it.

They can't get James Wan back because he's still tied down with Aquaman 2's post production, F. Gary Gray, IDK if he'd want to return, David Leitch who directed H&S is a good choice but unlikely, I'd like Ryan Coogler to direvt, but he's bust with post-production with Black Panther 2, Edgar Wright is also a good choice, but it will all come down to Lin, Vin Diesel and Universal on who will direct the next one. I know Diesel wanted Rob Cohen to come back but he's been accused of sexual assualt in the last few years.

XXx 3 director can do it or maybe the Pitch Black/Riddick guy

reply

You can tell Justin Lin was creatively having a lot of fun with Fast 5 and 6 and so were the audience. Those films are fun and absurd in the best way and a fun throwback to 90’s action films.

I think the 7th film should have been the end of the franchise as 8 and 9 have been so bonkers that it’s devolved into parody now.

Hopefully Lin gets to make his own passion project film now or maybe even work with Marvel Studios. They also recently announced the reboot cast are coming back for a fourth Star Trek film, I’d be all good with Lin directing that as he did great with Star Trek: Beyond.

reply

Trek4 has a director already the WandaVision guy but maybe he'll get replaced now...

reply

D'oh! I just hope he gets a good script to work with then on something.

Brie Larson curse continues.

reply

What is Brie Larson curse?

reply

It had nothing to do with Brie Larson. I doubt she even has a big role in Fast X because of all the other stars in this movie. I think Lin knows it’s going to suck and wants out.

reply

I think so too which is hilarious cause he co-wrote it. I'm guessing being the last ride, big Vin is being more impossible to work with than ever. But for sure this dude must be flat out exhausted.

reply

Have to wonder what the "creative differences" were. I wonder if Vin ended up forcing him out.

reply

I think Lin is just creatively bored with the franchise. He came back for the ninth film and it got a mixed reviews and everyone is mocking the absurdity of the franchise now and making those 'Family' memes.

Considering it's basically the next two years of his working life he has to work on these final two films he probably just wanted a change. I think if he really did quit he's made a good decision, he'll still get a producer and writing credit and he doesn't have to put up with Vin Diesel's shit anymore, that guy looks like the most annoying person ever to work with.

reply

I think the Fast movies have been a mixed bag with him anyway. I really like Tokyo Drift and think that Fast Five is good as well, but Fast & Furious is a fucking piece of shit and the worst film in the franchise, and everything after Five has been pretty forgettable.

reply

For me 2 Fast 2 Furious and F9 are the worst films in the franchise, then Fast & Furious.

Fast Five is definitely my favourite though and you're right it's the peak of the franchise, everything after has been pretty forgettable.

reply

I actually think the first film is the peak, but Five is a good movie and fun to watch.

It really comes down to what you want from the franchise. Are you coming to the series to watch street racing movies or over-the-top action movies?

If street racing, then 1-3 is what you got. If crazy action movies, then that really started with 4, which acts as a kind of pivot point for the series. I'd say that 4 and 5 together represent the transition into what the franchise would become. By the time we get to 6 it has fully transformed itself into a goofy, over-the-top action franchise that in only superficial ways is connected to what the series started out as with the original film.

Regarding 2 Fast, I don't love it and it's not a particularly good movie. But I do think that Paul Walker and Tyrese work well together, there are few good jokes, and there are a few good racing sequences. Plus, Cole Hauser is always fun to watch.

As for Fast 9, I honestly have already forgotten it. Not sure I could tell you even one thing that happened in that film without going back and refreshing myself on the plot. 6-9 for me are almost like a blur.

reply

Yeah, I remember 6 is the one with the world’s longest runway. 7 had the skydiving cars, 8 had a submarine and 9 Tyrese and Ludacris went to space. I’ve only watched these films once.

I’ve seen the first one, Tokyo Drift and Fast Five a few times though. I like the heist film style of the fifth film, that’s a lot of fun and I probably would have ended the franchise with it.

6-9 bring back dead characters among many other daft things, they really just feel like being made for $$$$$ because you really do forget about them as soon as you’ve watched them.
