Look, this happens all the time because Hollywood is the most PC and guilt-ridden place on earth. This actor was picked for this role ONLY because he was black. It was the show's way of saying how PC they are.

Were black people absolutely subjected to conditions and circumstances designed to impoverish, disenfranchise and dehumanize them since before it was a country? Yes.
Despite these long, historical hurdles to success, when black people suffered the social maladies associated with poverty and hopelessness such as drug addiction and crime, were they punished even more harshly? Yes.
When white folks lost their factory jobs over the course of a couple decades of globalization and turned to oxycontin and then heroin, were they treated as harshly? No.
