The Sheriff

I found his attitude absolutely deplorable and a perfect definition of rape culture. Unbelievable.

He disgusted me. I'm shocked that he's so high up and has so much authority. I wouldn't allow him to be in charge of a potato, let alone a town/county.

Dean and I do share a more profound bond. I wasn't going to mention it - Castiel

yes he was absolutely horrible. Rape culture summed up in a neat little package. But can i say that i liked that this documentary didn't make him the out right villain. A few sound bites sure but they focused on the victims and their story's rather than let the sheriff hog the screen. They could have easily showed more interviews from him where i'm sure he said other idiot things but they balanced it. Bringing him in as they did we were able to get the picture of what is wrong with that town and society but weren't overloaded outside perspective. I think it was good we had our hearts broken by Audrie and Daisy and everyone's stories, and have that fuel our anger. Hearing the truth in such explicit detail was the fuel. Rather than offering up one person to explain a bigger problem we got a cluster of harrowing ordeals that explain the bigger problem. We got the full picture and i think that is smart, smart film making.

I completely agree, very well stated.

reply

Just like in real life. That is not that all uncommon you know. That the victims arent always believed, or that they edged the boys on and so on

reply

Agreed! My blood was boiling the whole time he was blubbering like an idiot. It's just unimaginable that a person with that kind of authority doesn't find anything criminal with underage sex (consensual or not).

I also find it repugnant how he questioned the boys! I lost count how many times he said "cool"!!! I mean, really, that's how you're gonna play it?

And it makes me sick that he is a father of two tween girls and he thinks having sex at 14 is "normal"! Ugh!

reply

I hated the constant "cools"! I was wondering if he was doing some good cop, bad cop thing where he was pretending to be their friend so they'd spill then he'd turn into bad cop and lay down the law. But nope. He just wanted to be the cool cop. Boys will boys and all that.

reply

This man should not be in law. He is scum and his behavior and comments are disgusting!!

reply

I couldn't believe he gave the phone BACK to the kid because he didn't know how to turn it off and then watched him CLEARLY either delete something or edit something on the phone before switching it off.

reply

Totally read my mind, you did. "Rape culture" is exactly what my mind was screaming at him again and again.

Nothing to see here, move along.

He was a f-cking joke.
