That ending really didn't feel like an ending (Spoilers)

Jonah kills Mel, its cuts to black, why is that the final thing we see in the show? I was expecting something a little more definitive with everything wrapped up so its clear theres no more seasons. But the way they ended it just felt like theres more episodes to come or a movie, cause that didn't even feel like a finale to a regular season.

So we don't know what happens with Three after Ruth died, the aftermath of Jonah killing Mel, whats Rachel's gonna end up doing? Hows Marty emotionally after letting Ruth die? cause we didn't even really see anyone feel the aftermath of Ruth's death which should've been huge, we should've saw Marty crying and finally showing emotion cause she was like a daughter to him.

The whole thing imo felt rushed and like they just wanted to end it and they didn't feel like figuring out how to tie everything up so they just left alot of shit up in the air like "Well this is all you're gonna get come up with the rest of the ending for everyone on your own".

The Byrds won. What more do you need to know? What is there to wrap up? All inconsequential b-plots. You wanna see Marty crying over Ruth? That's melodrama.
Then ending was perfect (if you didn't want a happy one)

How did they win? they're still tied up in the cartel shit, we never saw them get out clean, theres still tons of variables, especially with their son murdering Mel which Maya will definitely find out about or be on to them about when he's suddenly missing. By no means are they free nor did they win. It cut to black so we don't know what happens, which by the looks of it the writers never learned from the Sopranos ending.

And Ruth Dying should've been a huge deal to Marty, he cared for her like a daughter, so to see him crying over her would've been nice to see since he's been so emotionless for most of the show, it would've shown how important Ruth was to him that it finally broke him. It would've gave more impact to her death.

I don't think they won. They survived, but at the cost of their souls. And at the cost of their children's souls. But what Wendy and Marty care about is their "family" togetherness, and they care about that more than anyone else's life, and they even care about that more than whether their children are decent people. They only won because of the depths of evil they were willing to go to. They were willing to embroil their own children in terrible things to keep them all together.

reply

Yeah, this. The only people they cared about outside of their kids were Ben and Ruth, and they got them both killed. In that sense it was a great ending, until the final scene.

It was just stupid to pile on and make Jonah a killer like that. He was already going to be a criminal, the thrill was too high to drop, and the money too good. The PI dude would never show up alone in the middle of the night to tell psychopaths he had dirt on them. So it felt like a phony situation to put Jonah in that spot.

Seems like a lot of these shows try to push the “edgy” ending where so many things are left unanswered. I think The Sopranos started this crap. Haha.

I don’t mind anything that happened plot wise with the show’s ending, but I did want to see more of an aftermath, so that disappointed me a lot.

It just shows me that it’s really tough to end a popular show.

It really felt like it would've been better to make the finale the episode before the finale, so we could get more of an aftermath of Ruth's death, Jonah killing Mel, and just more time to wrap everything up better.

What was left unanswered by the Sopranos?
Tony was shot in the diner and since the show was from his perspective, that is how it ended for us. The sudden cut to black wasn't "being edgy", it was Tony getting shot from behind without ever knowing it.

reply

Theres no actual answer to what happened to Tony, you just come up with what you think happened. And i would be more inclined to think he got shot if we was seeing the camera from his point of view and it went black, but the camera is looking at Tony when it cuts to black.

So its not from Tony's perspective when it goes black so i never got the impression we was seeing Tony die through his eyes.

That ending pissed so many off, and rightfully so, you follow the show that long and in the end we don't ever find out what happens to Tony. And same thing here with Ozark, cuts to black and we never see what eventually happens to The Byrds, we don't actually see them getting free, killing Mel who was ready to testify against them recently, then he goes missing, gonna raise some red flags for The Byrds.

No, I did not come up with anything.

Like 10+ years ago I found a fantastic article explaining everything in detail, but I wouldn't even know where to look for it to begin with. Even Chase himself said back then "It is all there to see". He never confirmed or denied until in the video above, because he invested too much to give us this brilliant scene.... and then no one got it.
Well, most didn't.

We even know who the killer is.
We know everything from that scene and from how it was shot.
If we see and don't just watch.
