Just a few random observations

First of all, overall I liked this movie. It was intriguing, kept my attention, and had humorous moments. But there were lots of things that were just goofy. E.g.
(1) The hypnosis thing is unrealistic. It would have made more sense to drug him, or to implant something in his brain that would disable him. The original hypnosis scene was bizarre, and then to hypnotize him by clinking a cup is silly.
(2) A bright flash brings people out of the trance. This seems like a major flaw with the plan (in addition to be. Everybody will eventually see a bright light (camera, lightening bolt, exploding light bulb), and then the jig is up; the body-snatched person will run for the hills.
(3) What's eventually going to happen when the town is full of young black folk? Won't that look odd?
(4) It's convenient that that little door opens by itself at just the right moment (when the girlfriend leaves the room), and that the revealing pictures are right there for him to see. Probably not a good idea for the serial-kidnapper chick to keep photos of 20 victims in the bedroom.
(5) This would seem like a very inefficient way for her to get dudes for transplantation. They had dated for months I think she said. Plus there would be a trail for all these missing persons going right to her. Her bro had a method that seemed to work.
(6) What's up with that old TV from the 1970s? They have modern technology to transplant brains, but they can't get an HD TV in there?
(7) The videos and feed they play to him on that old TV are bizarre. It's a hoaky way to explain some things. It's sort of like in the old Batman shows, right before they would kill Batman, they would explain how they were going to do it. I know that they tried to explain this (stating that the procedure was more effective if the subject understood what was happening), yeah -- right.
(8) Did the cops ever arrive? (Sorry - ran out of room here...)

I liked the movie too and for most of your observations I would say that really, it is a movie and it has to unfold with some sense of foreboding and twists to move the plot along.

1. I thought was very uncomfortable scene.
2. I agree, it does seem like the biggest flaw
3. That would be an interesting sequel.
4-5. Again, needs the plot twist to show she's in on it
6. Older is creepier.
7. We the viewer just needed to know what's going on finally. Again, not a perfect movie. Definitely silly bit didn't bother me
8. Actually someone else on this board brought up a good point that the only way Chris would have been more screwed is if the cops did show up, right as he killed the last of the crazy white people. Now that would have been a hard thing to explain. Jordan Peele actually went for the happier ending there.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here- https://youtu.be/Tb0kPow-1D4

I'd like to know how Chris was confined to the chair in the basement for all that time without once pissing or shatting himself.

Point 2 ("A bright flash brings people out of the trance") is a major flaw, but the movie realizes it's potentially a major flaw, tries to explain it, and succeeds somewhat though not entirely.

Andrew (young guy with a much older partner) says at one point: "I don't go out of the house much anymore". I believe this is the clue that they realized a bright flash is a danger, and try to keep themselves in a controlled environment of their homes. But even if they remove majority of bright flash sources from their homes, this isn't a bulletproof method. There's always a possibility of some unexpected bright flash occurring and then things can get ugly.

Never mind that, how did he get cotton in his ears when he was tied up?

Anyway,

1) I like the cup way of hypnosis. To me it was new and a sneaky way of getting into his mind. Drugs or operation would be too obvious in this story. This way even after the hypnosis we doubt if it was evil or just a step in becoming a none smoker.

2) Yep, though it is explained it is essentially a brain transplant and so only part of the original hosts are left there still... so perhaps these flash are only momentarily escapes and so indeed a flaw but not a deal breaker, I think.

3) Well, a town full of youngsters. The black phenomenon seemed to be explained as though it was a fashion statment... but in fact it was near the beginning of this trip, and so likely they would adjust or other ways before it would become too strange. My question is rather; where were all the other boyfriends? We only saw 3 I think, and yet the box had multiple others... were they failed attempts or just at home sleeping.

4) Sure, but many thing are in our lives. No?

5) I disagree. She dates them and from the outside view they chose to settle down with someone else there. No missing people here just messed up relationships. And in her dating she will have the chance to pick the right candidates. Someone with few ties to the outside world etc. Almost the perfect crime? The Bro's way was risking the whole operation... in fact, his adoption was what brought it down.

6) Creepy effects. I dig it. And I got the sense the grandpa was the instigator so likely they just kept it like this from his prime.

7) Indeed and yet the movie explains to us that the succesrate seem to benefit if there is this exposition just before the operation. And I can see this. Let's us speculate that the mind slowly givesin at this point and so is more ready to obey...

8) The cops did not believe in his friend's story.

Lots of it is to help the film along I agree. Just a couple of things. The original host had to be there still I think so the best way of achieving this was the hypnosis and putting them in the hole.

With regard the cotton wool in ears, he was able to reach the arm restraints with his mouth as he tried unsuccessfully to undo them - so I guess he was able to get his ears to his hands where he could put the furniture stuffing into his ears.

Perfect, the ear conundrum is no more :)

One more observation about cotton: I thought it was a nice analogy there. Black people were once used to pick cotton, and now picking cotton from the chair was the thing that saved his life.
