Why did the preacher quit?
The light skinned black preacher that directed the first play. He is later seen at psych hospital. What was wrong with him?

I thought he was just terminally ill? And did we see him at a psych hospital? I think it was just at the hospital/clinic where Lady Bird's mother works as a nurse.
shareI assumed that he had admitted himself for treatment for depression/suicidality due to his young son's death (discussed earlier in the movie as the reason he cried so easily)

shareYeah, during the "crying exercise" it comes out that he had a son who died and he is still overcome with grief over it. So he submits himself to treatment at the mental health facility where Lady Bird's mom works. I felt like there could have been a few more scenes regarding that but yeah, it basically was his depression that got the better of him and forced him to quit.
