The only Will Smith movie I ever saw in the theater was Independence Day. Maybe the Slap resonated both backward and forward through time.

You missed out then. Enemy of the State, I Robot and I Am Legend were all solid big-screen experiences.

It's not really the LOOK of films these days that I tend to complain about. Though since you mention CGI, I will agree that it's overused.

That was actually one of the pluses of Bad Boys. It seemed to use a lot of practical effects and minimal digital trickery.
