I LOVE the entire series, but this would be my order:

2 (I can still watch it, but I don't have the same passion for it as for the other movies).

The first one is the best of the series... DePalma... The mood and atmosphere... the twists... so good... Cinematic...

The latest ones have a bit too much of a soap opera feel... the melodrama and series aspects....

1 and 2 are great, by master directors. Then JJ Abrams too over and plundered it. The writers of Transformers gave Ethan Hunt a wife and a domestic dispute.

I thought 2 was Woo's only good American film. And I'm a huge fan of his Hong Kong kino.
The first one is the only one I would say I didn't much like. It has good moments but it is the one "bad"movie IMO.
