Why are white people so threatened by this movie?

The movie is for everyone not just black people or black women. Yes, the movie is set around a time when racism was very high but to me it was more about women not being appreciated for all their hardwork back in the day rather black or white than just another stick it to white people movie. All the hate this movie is getting is ridiculous.

Only the uneducated white people feel threatened. Most think it is a great film.

White people are not threatened by this afterschool special of a movie.

Yet people like you keep coming back again and again and again, for weeks on end, to try and diminish it. That tends to sound pretty much like the definition of someone either threatened or else insane.

No man lies so boldly as the man who is indignant.

Happy Senior still trolling this thread with about 100 comments about your racism. You and your kind took IMDB message board down. Back to stormfront.org for you.

Two words: White fragility.

Abstract

White people in North America live in a social environment that protects and insulates them from race-based stress. This insulated environment of racial protection builds white expectations for racial comfort while at the same time lowering the ability to tolerate racial stress, leading to what I refer to as White Fragility. White Fragility is a state in which even a minimum amount of racial stress becomes intolerable, triggering a range of defensive moves. These moves include the outward display of emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt, and behaviors such as argumentation, silence, and leaving the stress-inducing situation. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium. This paper explicates the dynamics of White Fragility.

No offense, but that sounds like a bunch of left wing psycho babble to me. Or as Eleanor Shellstrop might say, "Bullshirt!"

That's a book title that came out a couple years ago. Don't know if it's by same person.

It has an Amazon rating of 4*, but all the promoted reviews are 1*! Worth reading.

Made up BS by a flaming racist just like you.

Fuck off racist.

I don't feel threatened at all by this movie.. I think it's an interesting film about a part of history I didn't know before however I don't think it was anything new or special.

reply

There will always be haters for any movie, but I'm white and I enjoyed it. I also liked Fences and Moonlight.

I kind of like Kimmel's remark at the Oscars: "Black people saved NASA, and white people saved Jazz".

:-)

reply

I'm not threatened by this movie. I could relate to lots of it because I have been in government hiring programs for people with disabilities. Lots of overlap.

I'm not sure what you don't get about racism. I could have told you way back when this was first announced that it was a going to be be A LOT of noise from the racists.

Visit any of the forums here for films / TV shows that feature black people (and other non-whites) and you'll find the racists there.

Also, remember the trolls. All racism aside, the trolls (I mean the real ones who are only out here to push buttons, not the people that are simply racist or simply have a caustic posting style), those trolls KNOW that this is a hot button. It's too easy for them to stir up trouble when a film has a predominantly black or female principle cast.

And this one has BOTH.

So it ain't white people that are threatened by this film -- it's racists of any color.

I wasn't aware that white people were threatened by it.

Though when I watched it, the film pretty much suggested that these three black women were the primary movers in NASAs successes which seems a tad unlikely to me. That might explain some negativity. It's one thing to shine a spotlight on the roles of minorities in past accomplishments but another entirely to rewrite history altogether.

But that's just a guess.

reply

I liked it. Didn't feel history was re-written. Thought that it was explaining government had employment programs for people who weren't white men/women....even though those employment programs weren't entirely easy to be in/utilize.

reply

I did too, pioneergrrrl!

reply

I'm white. What's the problem? The movie was good....

The "whites feel threatened" claim is made up by leftists to further fuel the racial divide in this country, so they can "feel better about themselves" by being non-racist. In order for them to continue to feel good, and superior, they have to invent racism that doesn't exist.
