Who thought it was a good idea to let his parents join in?
Their acting was terrible, his dad was cringey (the scene where he plays on his Ipad in Ep. 2), his mom's like a robot. Huge turn off!

shareI like them both, they're funny.
shareHis parents were the BEST part of this otherwise middling show! They are HILARIOUS!
shareI feel like their somewhat wooden acting added to the folksy charm of their characters. I thought they were very warm and sweet people on camera, with perfect deadpan delivery.
If Master of None was a drama, I don't think it would have worked, but it's cute in a comedy.
po-da!
the parents rule!!!!
Those were his real parents? Cool.
Mindy Kaling has said it was hard to find Indian actors the right age, and that's part of the reason it took so long for her to put her character's parents on The Mindy Project. Her actual parents played Kelly's parents on an episode of The Office, but her mom (who was the better actor) had since died. She ended up hiring actors who were pretty young to be parents to the 30-something year-old main character. So maybe that difficulty had something to do with Aziz Ansari's decision. The guy who plays Raj's dad on Big Bang Theory (Brian George) plays practically every older South Asian character, but he can't be everyone's dad.
