What's up with the rating?
I thought it was a great. I mean it was a little long, but it was really good and funny.

shareDOes anyone rely on IMDB for a rating these days? I read it for synopsis and crew listings, but rotten tomatoes is far superior for ratings, both critic and audience. It has above 80% on there.
shareDont worry, you'll get used to it. IMDB and the internet in general is a cesspool for a large amount of people to vent out their racist frustrations they hold back from the public. Which includes but limited to downvoting a movie made or centered around blacks, site unseen.
shareYou're a dummy. This movie is trash and you don't have to be prejudiced or racist to recognize that.
sharec'mon, you know what these pathetic white people do when a movie with black people is made.
shareBrilliant film.
shareI'm no Spike Lee hater, I consider his DTRT to be one of the best ever made. But this is really flawed stuff. I'm more surprised with the praise it gets from the critics.
shareFlawed but still good..

Last seen: Carol (9/10)
As the film is unlikely to come to my part of the world I have ordered a copy from Amazon.
shareI wouldn't call it good. Interesting definitely, but not good. I'm baffled by the positive reviews
shareMysterious.
The New Yorker called it 'THE BEST FILM OF THE YEAR," too!
I fear everyone's brain is just dying....
.
I didn't hate this movie but I didn't think it was very good either. Some of the actors, like Angela Bassett gave great performances, others like John Cusak, not so good.
Unlike others who've posted I didn't think Nick Cannon was that bad, especially given the script he had to follow. Overall I'm leaning toward three star rating as I wasn't fully engaged as a viewer, didn't feel the script was well developed and thought more could have been done with the story line and could not bring myself to watch this movie again.
I thought it was masterfully made. One of Spike Lee's best. A bit preachy at times, but that's not too uncommon with Spike Lee's movies.
Time to make up a new signature.
IMDB is a place for fanboys. They stir momentum and hype. Spike Lee has amassed a legion of haters over his career and they speak loudly in places like these.
They tear down Spike as much as they prop up guys like Christopher Nolan. It's just the fad. Spike is a fearless filmmaker who's made many flawed movies but some are great and even the uneven ones scratch the surface of greatness occasionally. But he's also opinionated, and that doesn't help you in fanboy world. He's also criticized Quentin Tarantino before...which is a big no-no in the realm of IMDB where Pulp Fiction is considered the 5th best movie ever.
I bet half the votes on here were from people who didn't even see the movie.
Even the most primitive society has an innate respect for the insane.
Nice thing for me is that I can be a fan of both Spike Lee and Quentin Tarantino. And I do regard Pulp Fiction as one of the greatest movies of all time. But I prefer to appreciate the artist based on the art and not on his or her personal life or opinions.
And I find both Tarantino and Lee's films to be more engaging than Nolan's movies.

I find Nolan's characters rather bland.
And there is often a disconnect between critics and the general public on a lot of movies. Look at Transformers.
