$37 to watch Mulan remake

Disney would have to pay me $100 to watch

reply

What does this mean?

reply

In order to watch it, you:
1) Have to subscribe to Disney+
2) Pay an extra $37 to watch it in September.

reply

That's BS. It's not like when Netflix releases new content that it costs more. Disney is greedy.

reply

The report is unclear if it is $36.99 (which would include a 1 month access to Disney+) or if it is $30.00 for New Subscribers. Current subscribers would then be buying Mulan for $23??? It is probably the former.

“We thought it was important to find alternative ways to bring [Mulan] in a timely manner,” Disney CEO Bob Chapek said. In countries where Disney Plus is not available, Disney is releasing Mulan in theaters on the same date. The new release date follows Warner Bros.’ announcement that Christopher Nolan’s Tenet would get a staggered release. Tenet will open in approximately 70 international territories on August 26th before getting a limited release in the United States on September 3rd. It will go city by city in the United States as the country battles climbing coronavirus cases.

Last month, Disney delayed Mulan indefinitely, pulling the film from its theatrical calendar. Two of Disney’s other upcoming films, The New Mutants and Black Widow, remain with their respective release dates of August 28th and November 6th. A spokesperson at the time told Variety that “it’s become clear that nothing can be set in stone when it comes to how we release films during this global health crisis.”

It's $29.99 to rent for subscribers in addition to the usual Disney+ sub.

reply

👍

reply

I want to see it, but I'm not going to pay $29.99 just to rent it. If it was $10 or $15 to rent it, I likely would go for that.

reply

I think you keep it after purchase

reply

It's a "semi-rental"... once you pay the $30, you can rewatch it over and over again at your leisure. None of that "48-hour viewing window" stuff. OTOH, I believe you lose access to it if you stop your Disney+ subscription.

reply

difference is cinema tickets are per person, this is per household

reply

Seems like a dumb move on Disney's parr but maybe I underestimate the draw.

reply

well with cinemas closed , its uncharted territory for moviemakers , so they're making it up.

reply

Is Disney+ NUTS???!!!

reply

Those were my thoughts exactly when I read this.

reply

Just wait then ...

The “Mulan” Premier Access offer will be available until Nov. 2. Then, as of Dec. 4, 2020, “Mulan” will be available to all Disney Plus subscribers for no additional cost, according to an updated page on the service’s site, as previously spotted by the Verge.

reply

But surely it'll just be pirated and available on torrent sites tomorrow?

reply

Yep. It’s everywhere.

Heh, over 10k downloads. No more screeners or cams with bad audio when you can get straight from the source right on release date. I wonder how this will affect movies in general with major movies going this route (some of them anyway) profit wise. It was literally the sole reason for me to go to the theaters in the first place. But now if I can just get a good Home Theater setup, who needs to go to theaters anymore?

Not sure if this type of topic you're posting is allowed on MC as well fyi since you're more or less saying where...
