This is why we need feminism

So that men like Edward or Tony won't be considered "weak" because they are sensitive or unwilling to have a dick fight with other toxic hypermasculine alpha dogs.
And "being like a woman" (Do you have a vagina? Are you a pussy?) won't be considered a bad thing.

Thank you Tom Ford. Only a gay man can understand how fragile masculinity is coz he was probably treated similarly by his heterosexual peers

The film is pretty anti-feminist, it shows the difference between men and women. Men are risk takers who would jeopardize their future for a greater goal while woman seek security and stability above everything.

docstar - You are a toxic, vulgar, agenda biased, neophyte who has taken way too many Women's Study classes. This is why this millennial movement will go the way of the trash heap. You project your own poisonous outlook on human beings and spew it out there in the internet world trying to persuade new followers. The agenda is clear.

Kill yourself. Please.

Considering it's IMDb, I'm not sure if this is satire but I completely agree with you. Edward was originally a warm and sensitive person (he reminded me of my own boyfriend), and it's really unfortunate that he felt the need to harden or to become less "weak".

Nope, not in a million years.

But that was a point of the story. It did not happened, it was fiction within fiction.
You may be right on feminism, but all I know is that at some point masculinity will be the one being demonized, we can't just stop in the middle and practice balance, we were always going from one extreme to another, we the society of extremists who dream of balance.

According to this movie i like to point out some facts which i understood:
#in the novel, jack's character has nothing to do with jack's real life situation. He just try to portrayed how he hurt by the act of the woman he loved. He can't enforce an woman to stay with him or loving him, love/relationship never work in that way. So he let her go just like in novel he can't stop this incedent happen. It's not the problem with masculinity, its just a portrayed of real life events. If he retaliated in real life in any other way then we would saw his retaliation in novel too.
#who do you think Michael Shanon portrayed in the Novel?? it's just another side of ED, the retaliated side. with this novel character ED try to portrayed that he was try his best within his limitations to hold her and his baby to him, But can't succeeded like the detective forced to drop the case. So, there should be no question to rise on the masculinity of the Ed if u understand how this novel worked.
# Ed was not weak. Why do you think he is weak? Because he doesn't earn enough money to make life luxurious?? Because he wants to live a life which he dreamed of? Living in a intellectual way instead of Generating money is a Weak human's thoughts??? Hell no!
#this movie try to bring this message that Not Ed, Adam's charcter was weak. She can't just stand with what she dreamed of with her life. She can't just stand aside with Ed and fight back angaist the life's obstacles. She even fear to bring a child in the world because of the uncertainty which is she can't cope up with.
#feminiesm define something, i believe, stand aside with man and face the life and go through it with equal responsibility no matter how hard it gets. Adam's character failed it when she was with Ed but succeeded when she was with another. She and Ed never meant together. their life expectations was different but Ed live with his deams no matter what, thats meke him a fighter.
# the antagonist character is Adam's mom, who always have a fear, life is failure without luxury. and she put this inception in her daughters head too. Time did rest of the work.
# A promising couple try to lead their own life with what they dreamed of but after a while, reality/life expectancy create two different road for them, they spilt in a different way with the sadness of unborn child. Eds get broken heart because he believe on her and her dream. He write a novel to portrayed how he going through it. Adams feel every inch of it by reading this novel. She felt heart broken too for breaking the heart of her loved one. Its the story of broken hearts who never meant together.

ok but

The daughter is the one who pissed off those guys in the first place and got the whole snowball rolling.
The daughter (and wife) didn't have any more strength or bravery than Tony, she is like most people on the internet, full of 'bravery' and 'fuck yous' when she thinks she's safe but does not really understand the consequences in the real world. Mouthing off and flipping people off is not a brave act, unless you are also ready to handle the results of doing it.
The whole time Tony was being passive and trying to calm the situation down, the wife and daughter kept throwing gasoline on the fire. I am not blaming the victims, because a normal person does not murder someone for flipping them off. It's still the murderers faults. the guys were already not normal.
BUT, there are ways to minimize the damage when you are in a situation like that, and continuing to piss them off is not the way!
Maybe they were just going to kill them anyway, maybe that was always going to happen no matter what they did, but the one thug said he only did it because they accused him of stuff. That whatever someone accused him of, he would go do that thing, just to be contrary. He seemed to imply that he would not have raped or killed them if they had not kept talking shit to him. In real life. that probably would not make a difference, but the way Edward write his story, it would have made a difference.
