When they were driving around town in the Ecto1 reminded me of a Spy Kids movie more than a Ghostbusters.

Does seem to have a better tone, along with continuity and respect for the original movies. But it's just not for me... the original had adult scientists with considerable knowledge/education who developed this technology doing the ghostbusting, this is a group of kids who stumbled into it and what? They are gonna figure out how to use everything and be able to catch ghosts just like they were playing a video game?

Problem is Ghostbusters never should've had a sequel to begin with. The cartoon was enough. Sadly necessity isn't in Hollywoods vocabulary.

The all woman ghostbusters was enjoyable.

Ghostbusters film now can't be a straight sequel since it's been thirty years had past between Ghostbusters 2 and Afterlife. A large reason for it starring kids and taking place in a small town was due to it being in development hell for so long.

Personally I would've had the young cast be somewhat older, to make them more believable trainees for the original team. Given the amount of time that's passed you can't argue with the basic strategy of introducing new Ghostbusters to take the franchise forward, while keeping the old guard around to guide them and back them up. But I'm not sure the Scooby gang qualifies. Giving 13 to 16 year olds actual particle beam weapons to play with - that sounds like a recipe for one of them ending up dead. Even with the comedic elements of GB it's hard to believe they could just find this equipment and learn to use it effectively all by themselves.

The trailer was kinda intriguing. I might check it out. I doubt I'll hit a theatre to see it, though. I'll wait and stream it. Netflix, Amazon...wherever. Just so long as I don't cross the streams...
