Not gonna be the Ghostbusters 3 fans wanted

The Ghostbusters 3 fans wanted to see is long passed because it needed to be made sometime in the early to mid 90's otherwise a new movie wouldn't be a straight sequel, if there were 10, 15 years between Ghostbusters 2 and Ghostbusters 3 you have to say something it, it would be obvious that Ghostbusters 3 isn't a direct continuation of Ghostbusters 2, need to say something about why all the characters 15 years older but 15 years didn't pass 30 years have, so it can't be the original cast because 70 year men wearing proton packs just wouldn't work and a new instalment to the franchise needed young blood.

There probably had to have been more than two Ghostbusters films in the first place to create a sufficiently large franchise.

reply

It's not "Ghostbusters III" if they're ignoring the sequel which is what it looks like Dan is doing. The hearse should be a broken-down Ecto-1A unless they reverted it for some reason.

Or, maybe he just considers the video game (2009) to be the true followup since Harold Ramis was alive at the time.

I just hope Dan isn't going to adapt to the current culture too much. Otherwise, it's gonna be a suckfest.

reply

Not ignoring GB2 or the video game, probably had Ecto 1 original stored away during GB2.

reply

Ecto-1A maybe a different car.

Ghostbusters: Dark Fate

They've confirmed that Ghostbusters 3 is set in the same universe of the first two films ignoring 2016's female led 'Ghostbusters.' And they've confirmed the original cast is returning.

reply

We know that. The Ghostbusters 3 that fans wanted was something like the video game set few years after GB2 with the original cast in their prime.

reply

THE GHOSTBUSTERS YOU WANTED...THERE IS A DIFFERENCE..I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS IN EVERY WAY.

reply

Obviously, they can't do that type of sequel now. This is going to be Ghostbusters TNG which pairs the remaining old cast with a new group of young actors who could take the franchise forward. That's not to say the old guard won't continue to play a part. But as you say, at a certain point action scenes with 50 pounds of gear and men well past retirement age doesn't pass the BS test anymore.

reply

But kids wielding proton packs makes perfect sense. The trailer looked like a poorly thought out fan film.

reply

This seems to be a cheap move trying to exploit the "stranger things" hype. Shoving kids into anything, used to work in the 80's, but way too cheesy now.

reply

A large reason for it starring kids and taking place in a small town was due to it being in development hell for so long.

reply

Yep, they're riding the 80's nostalgia wave. Which I suppose is appropriate since the original dates back to that decade. Definite Stranger Things vibe - they've even got Finn Wolfhard. Three of the four original team are listed in the cast. Too bad they couldn't get this project done while Harold Ramis was around, but they deliberately avoided showing any of them in the trailer. Maybe they don't want to ruin the moment they make their entrance for theatrical audiences. I hate it when the best lines and reveals are spoiled before you even see the movie.

I try to give everything a chance, hopefully they won't let us down here. After that awful 2016 reboot another flop would send this franchise to the afterlife for real.

reply

Their grand kids would be teens now, bit like Halloween Jamie Lee Curtis having a teenage grand daughter.

reply

It's gonna be like the Creed of Ghostbusters where the old cast are supporting characters to a young time.

reply

I'll be happy if these 70 year old men can pass the torch to a younger generation with out getting killed them selves in the process unlike a certain space opera series as of late.
